String Question

Post by Ga.XbowCop »

How many shots does it take for your fast flight string to stop stretching? Purchased a new Crossbow Block Target today and I shot through it by approx.1/2 inch. I tightened the string the last time I shot it by 3 full twist to get it back on line. How many more twist should I go to compensate for the stretching? Any help would be great. Seasons in and I need to relieve some stress.

Sorry I can't help specifically with FastFlite string, I use Flemish Dacron on both my Excal bows. With Dacron it seems to be more a factor of time than specific number of shots. After a while it will settle down and stop stretching. I suspect FastFlite is probably similar.

I'd say in the range of 40 to 50 shots. I just shot about that many with our new Vixen, and still had to re-adjust the string with some twists. Eventually it will settle down.

I'm also restringing it, the way it shows it, in the video, by placing the xbow on the ground, slipping your foot in the stirrup, and grabbing the other limb with one hand while slipping the string on.

From what I hear, the fast flight string is a little better than the new strings that don't stretch much.

I've found some strings will shoot in after 50 shots and others may take more. They are not stretching, more like settling. The fibers are slowly finding the best position, which allows them to share weight with their neighbours. This doesn't go for dacron and such, but many for the fast flight and other high strength fibers ( 450+ etc).

Thanks Guys!
Thought that I might have been doing something wrong. I am sorry for saying fast flight string. I am used to shooting vert bows. Evan was dead on with theflemish string. It is the black and white twisted sting that came with my Exomag. I will twist some more and let the strings settle. Again thanks.
Tim :)
