Can I Play? New Kid on the Block
Can I Play? New Kid on the Block
Well, I'm not really a kid. Started bow hunting in the mid-sixtys. Started out with a recurve, used a compound for a couple of years in the eighties, went back to recurves and longbows and have used them for many years. However since Virginia is allowing crossbows this year I thought I'd give it a try. Bought an Excalibur Phoenix and was amazed at the accuracy. Found out right off that it's not a good idea to shoot two bolts at the same spot. Looking foward to learning from all of you who have crossbow experience. Hope ya'll will put up with some dumb questions from a crossbow novice. I'm sure I'll have plenty.

Welcome Flinger. Your archery experience pretty much mirrors mine except I am still waiting on my Vixen to be delivered
It is refreshing to have an experienced vertical bow archer who is still able to hunt with those bows have positive things to say about crossbows
Much of what you have learned over the years with recurves and compounds is applicable to crossbows. Once the arrow leaves the bow everything is the same. You still need to make a good shot and you still need sharp broadheads. There isn't anything magical about crossbows.
I sure look forward to your contributions.

Welcome to the best place to discuss crossbow hunting on the internet!
A lot of us here are old traditional bowhunters that have switched to crossbows for various reasons. My switch was prompted by bone spurs in the shoulder, but the accuracy of the Excalibur has convinced me it's a great way to continue to ethically bowhunt.
