first x bow deer

Post by pdislow »

i got my first ever xbow deer yesterday! a cow horn as we call em down here. i bought a piece of property about a year ago that had log cabin and a play house on it, about 150 feet from the cabin. deer seemed to like to walk right by the play house which is about 6 or 8 feet off the ground and just across the driveway from a buckeye tree the previous owner had planted . anyway i baited the area with corn and to make a long story short. aimed the crosshair on the varizone where i wanted to hit but at only 10 yards it ended up making a perfect spine shot. the bolt but end was about 1 inch out of the entrance hole. impact knocked the deer down and he never got up. i was using an exomax, laser 2 graphite bolt and a 30 year old razorback 5 broadhead that had one really badly damaged blade.( after the shot) so i drove my truck to within about 10 feet of the deer and loaded him up for the 3 mile trip home. not the kind of deer hunting i have been used to in the past. saw 6 deer that morning and wabi stated the whole thing very well earlier... enjoy the splender of nature !
thanks philip

Congrats Pdislow! Along with you, I too have now joined the club. I got my first crossbow deer on opening day here in Ontario. Two does popped out of the underbrush at 10 yards (obviously they hadn't read the play book because they were supposed to come along the trail at 20 yards!). The Exocet did its job, dropping the lead doe in its tracks. Because of the angle, the arrow went in just right of the spine (I don't think I could have picked harder rib bones to bust through!) then diagonally through both lungs and stopped just short of exiting. I have hunted deer with a rifle for many years and I have never seen a deer die faster than that crossbow deer.

Congrat's, that peace of land you bought was a good investment. :D
