Red Label lends a hand for my first Excal harvest~!

Post by Sandman »

Well, things have not been too $hit hot for me these days and I just dont have the ambition to hunt...ya believe it or not. I got a call from my good buddy R.J. who said grab your gear we're going hunting tonight....I said no I dont think I want to. He would not take no for an answer so we headed out to an area I hunt that is close to the area where "Red Label" always hunted. It was windy and raining and I thought it would be a waste of time but I waddled along the long trek in and R.J. set me up in the bottle neck and gave me a little advice on using a grunt tube. I got up my tree and settled in and grunted a few times every 15 mins or so. I was just about to give up but thought I would try one more grunt. I grunted and like a bat out of he!! in came a nice doe and stopped. I ranged her at 20 and pulled up on hershe must have seen me move because she turned and looked right at me. I was presented with only a spine shot and man is my bow dead on~! She went down like a sack of cement. I thought I had taken a small one but after R.J. arrived and closer inspection she was a rather good sized doe!
AFTER I PULLED THE TRIGGER AND WATCHED HER GO DOWN I IMMEADIATELY LOOKED UP AND SAID "THANKS MIKEY I KNEW YOU WERE THERE". I am sure Mikey V was laughing while R.J. and I dragged this animal approx 1 mile through some nasty cover to get to the truck~!

I did not manage any on scene pics but here she is i the cooler.....

On this pic you will see the bolt...There is only about 6 inches of the bolt that was stuck in the animal I could not find the rest?????

One thing about a long pack out .... gives you lots of time to chat and sort out the priorities that really matter !!

Very nice doe, congratulations! By the way is that your own cooler? We have several ones that look the same where I work.
And you thought it was going to be a waste because it was raining, well it doesn't have to be a sunny day to have fun. Keep your head up and your stick on the ice.

R.J., I have always found that the packing/cutting etc.. is just as fun as the hunt. That seems to be when everyone is together and spirits are high. You just have to be careful not to step in the bullshit.

I'm sure Mikey V. was laughing .... the 2 of us cripples " on the disbaled list " trying our best to play pack mule !
hehe, he probably was.

WTG sandman, nice doe.

Way to go Robin! I saw first hand this year what a spine shot will do. My doe was about 12 yards away and I knocked her right over like I hit her with a slug. The only problem was that she got back up and took off, leaving me with a poor blood trail and an hour long walk in the dark. Did find the deer though and actually just finished a tenderloin tonight. Yummy!
Congratulations again! Now it's time for a buck if you got a 2nd tag.
I hunt for memories, the meat's a bonus!

I'd say Red is up there watching all of us.

Chuckling along with us at some of our boo-boos and giving us an "ATTA BOY!!" when we do good.
