tomcat, that is good thinking in the vertical bow world. A good vertical bow may make very little noise and only get a deer's attention and not startle him. With the crossbow, you would have to put a telephone pole sized arrow to really make a difference in noise. After you put dissipator bars on and maybe some string tuffts, there is not much difference in sound shooting an arrow that is 75 grains heavier.

So I stick to my original point. You can't hush an Excalibur crossbow enough that the deer will not react so why wouldn't you try and get the arrow there faster and why wouldn't you want an arrow that can't be bent?

Not all deer react. Some just stand there and get shot. Those deer that do react will do so with any weight of arrow.

Had these Sims from my dad, their of his PSE Thunderbolt. Just in case anyone is having problems finding a nice left-handed bow, my dad is selling his.

I am shooting a 460 grain 2219 from my 2005 Vixen. I am getting 260 fps, 70 ft lbs of KE, and .534 SS of momentum. At 35 yards, through a chronograph, I am still getting 246 fps, 62 ft lbs. of KE and .505 SS of momentum. This energy and momentum has taken the largest elk, moose, caribou, and bears.

I have the new style Sims Limbsavers on the side of the limbs, toward me, at 6 inches from the string grooves. I have ball tied cat whiskers on the string 7 inches from the edge of the rail. I have the new style Limbsavers on each side of the rail, directly under the string, as low as I can get them. I have the little recurve Limbsaveres on the back side of the limbs at the limb pockets. I have the Sims bolt hold down spring silencers.

Basically, my setup is costing me 25 fps but the noise reduction is minimal over the 405 grain arrows I first tried. I just like the extra momentum of the heavier arrow and if I sit at the picnic table, I can hold inside of the 2 1/2 inch targdots at 35 yards. Not as good shooting offhand but well withing the heart zone of a whitetail. I hope to soon let you know what this setup will do on a 450-500 pound feral hog. I use only Muzzy 100 grain 4 blade heads and NAP 100 grain Shockwaves.
I never was as good as I used to be.

All I use for silencing is HEAVY SHAFTS, mine 450gr carbons travelling roughly 310FPS. Just thought I'd try these kind of SIMS, because I can. I'm going to compare one DOX w/sims to another DOX without, shooting the same bolt. To see if they are worth any sacrific................
