First deer I ever harvested with my xbow. Dad picked me up at 3:00 this afternoon for an evening hunt that I really didn't think would amount to much. The wind was blowing from the wrong way for our stands plus I just got off nights and didn't even know if I could stay awake. Got to our spot and really sprayed ourselves with scent eliminator and put out some tampon scent bombs with doe in heat. Just trying to combat the wind. Put out a bag of fresh groundfallen apples and climbed into the stand hoping to just not spook the deer with my scent. Around 5:10 I saw a fawn coming down a trail right for the apples. Messed around for a few minutes then saw the doe and another fawn. The doe just walked right in no concern in the world then froze. I thought the gig is up, she stomped a few time did some head bobs then started to walk to my left, when she went behind a tree I raised the bow. Had to wait for her to clear a little sappling. Judged her to be 30 yards out, she was calmed right down again so I put the 30 yard mark on her and gently pulled back on the trigger. Heard that telltale sound of bolt hitting mass, watched her go about 60 yards then heard her crash in the ceders. Gave her a good 45 minutes before we took up the trail. First 15 yards no blood. After that a blind man could have followed it. Total about 100 yards in a semi circle. Double lung shot. Had a great night, even though she has no horns to me she is still a trophy, one of Gods true blessings. Shot at 5:15 back home and hanging by 7:30.
