HOW FAR DO THE LIMBS EXTEND WHEN SHOT ?

Post by thebigdummy »

I have an Exocet about 3 years old.

In one of my tree stands I have limited forward clearance; I have a tree in front of me.

Question I have is does anyone know how far the limbs extend forward when fired? Would they extend past the foot stirrup? If so how far?

Also I would be interested in how you obtained this information?

Thanks for your help.

I doubt they will go that far but for safety's sake I would make sure I had lots of clearance. Gotta look after that bow, shoulder, eye and body.

Don't take the chance. If you are concentrating and a little excited about the deer you may lean a little farther forward. Not worth it.

Can you cut down the tree and clear yourself a better shooting lane???
Maybe set your stand in a different tree close by to get some better clearance...

If you hold your bow in front of you, (not drawn and cocked), the limbs will be as far "forward" as they can ever be. There may be a tiny amount of lateral stretch of the string, but it shouldn't make much difference to how far forward the limbs move.

The limbs would actually bend back toward you a bit as the string moves forward past the point where the string normally is at rest.

I would think that they cannot go past the point where the limbs are in the unfired position,as the string won't allow it.
That return position is the biggest single reason for the "thud" of the bow when fired.
Where people make the mistake is they go forward because the cocked bow will allow you to,and then when you fire, you get whacked with the limb hitting a tree or a branch.
Clear as mud,don't you think?
