This is the part where I look up and say, PLEASE JUST LET THE EARTH SWALLOW ME UP. The idea behind staining it this God awful dark stain is so that the soft grain drinks it up and the hard grain does not. I only do it with quilted maple and then rarely. It is a pain in the you know where because I am left with whatever the grain IS. After it dries I have to sand it down AGAIN and the hard grain will turn back to white and the soft grain will hold the stain because it absorbed deeper into the wood, IN THEORY. :D

Thanks Don, could have just put the finish on but the dark stain really is a game changer letting the grain show off a lot more. On the other hand I am putting all the attention to something I have no control over. After all the hours put into it, it really makes you break a sweat wondering what its going to do. On the flip side it will fit my Matrix 355 if everything turns to crap.

Mike, she looks so amazing I am practically speechless. I feel like I am waiting for the unveiling of a fine sculpture or painting. I think I see a few hints of what she will become and I can't wait to see the next step.

How long does she drink in that stain?

One drink is enough. By noon tomorrow it should be dry and ready to take the surface off again. Did you get the deer footprints that I sent you??

This is what I am looking for. See how the soft grain held the stain. Now when the finish hits it, it will pop. :D

And if you think this looks labor intense, your right. Anyone that wants it this way in the future it will cost you extra.

Is that what was in the email. I couldn't read it. With that beautiful grain popping out I really don't want to mark it up. If I really have an unbearable urge to add something later on, it is pretty easy to do.
