You got me there, I really don't know what to think. But you're right, they cannot stop you from target practicing with it. I also feel them Provinces should be educated on the crossbow and have pointed out to them what it can/can't do. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in and give some input on the issue...grizzled47 wrote: It looks as if I will at least be able to shoot my bow at something...if only a target!
What you think?

new bow
Hi A.W,
I printed out a copy of the mail, just in case! But this morning I received another mail from the authorities in NB confirming that I can deal with any critters on my own property ( except moose & deer ) but that it is illegal to posses a crossbow in a "resort of wildlife"!!!??? It seems their referal to "a bow" meant a vertical bow...although it doesn't say that! I am confused!
I have sent them a reply asking for confirmation! I have explained that it is for use on my own property, for target shooting, and ? possible varmin control! NOT hunting!!!!
Anyway, my heart has dropped to my boots, and it just maybe that I have to get a vertical bow, which I don't mind, but I have just paid a lot of money for my Pheonix!!! If I can't use it. I will have to do a swop, or sell it and then buy a vertical!
I just can't understand the logic of some of the provinces re these things!
Anyway guys, maybe you can now point me in the direction of a good "vertical" bow!!!!! Does BJ sell them? My crossbow hasn't even been taken out of the pakaging yet! I am feeling well sick!!!!!

Re: new bow
Not sure what they mean by this unless it is their version of a Wildlife Management Unit as in Ontario. Don't be in a hurry to get rid of that bow!!!grizzled47 wrote:Hi A.W,

They did say that you could use it on your own property. Later on if you want to do the hunting thing you can always pick up another toy...Just wont be another Excal.
Hang on to it.
"resort of wildlife" Never saw a deer in a bikini sipping a martini.

This is what they wrote!
Landowners experiencing nuisance wildlife problems with wildlife listed in
subsection 34(5) of the Fish and Wildlife Act (e.g. coyotes, raccoons and
skunks) have three options. First, under the authority of the Fish and Wildlife
Act private landowners may destroy or relocate the nuisance wildlife themselves.
Secondly, if the private landowner does not have the means to handle the
situation they can have someone else (e.g. friend or relative) destroy or
relocate the nuisance wildlife. Finally, if the private landowner does not know
anyone who could provide free assistance, they can contact a local licenced
Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator (NWCO). The NWCO is a highly trained
individual who will charge a fee for removing the animal from the landowner's
property. A permit is not required for the removal of nuisance wildlife listed
in the Fish and Wildlife Act.
DNR still responds to nuisance wildlife concerns involving moose, deer, bear and
other species of special management concern.
ew Please note that it is illegal to possess a crossbow in a resort of wildlife in
NBrunswick. Therefore, nuisance wildlife should be shot with a rifle, shotgun
or bow.

Keep the Excal for TARGET practice and fun. Buy a less expensive V bow for critters. You can still have lots of fun and later if you decide you want to hunt out of Province then you can use the Excal.
More and more Provinces/States are making Xbows legal to hunt with. Just takes a little time.

NEW BOW
I understand, and I think you are right. What puzzles me in the last mail they sent, is the wording..."It is illegal to possess a crossbow in a resort of wildlife" Isn't my property such a place? And, if so, Is it illegal for me to possess a crossbow on my property? And, if so, illegal for me to shoot it... even at targets??
HELP!
HELP!
Like I said earlier. It sounds like a "resort of wildlife" is the same as "wildlife management unit" is in Ontario. I can't see it being illegal to do target practice on your acres of property.
