Would someone care to post the statistic of just how many registered gun owners, either hand gun or long gun, have killed anyone?
I would suggest at the worst case scenario,it is a negligible number.
As usual,a new wave of panic, all for the wrong reasons, will eventually lead to all of us losing the right to own ANY gun.
That will give all the illegal gun owners open season on the rest of us,won't it?
There is already enough legislation in place to deal with the problem, why go and blow your brains out with our money just to win another election?
Something is wrong, and it will not get fixed with this type of logic!
Bob.

This is dumb. Like the ban on drugs like marijuana and cocaine and stuff.... They're illegal but people can still buy it and use it. Crime will never stop. NEVER! I'm not saying I do drugs or that I'm a criminal, but I mean they will never stop it. Everyone finds a way around everything in life.

What the hell kind of mindless twit do we have running this country!!!!???? If life in prison, for murder, is not enough of a deterrence banning handguns sure as hell won't help.

When? When will the numbskulls realize that criminals don't give a rats ass about what the book of rules say.

I just sent the Prime Minister an email. We'll see if a get any kind of response.

Dear Prime Minister Paul Martin,

This proposal is a waste of time and money. I do not want my tax dollars spent this way. Banning handguns will not accomplish anything. Well it will. It will buy votes from the ignorant. And it will suck money into a lost cause. To believe anything else is foolish!!

Criminals do not care about the laws, that is what makes them criminals. Plain and simple. Is it not already against the law to kill someone? I'm pretty sure it is. So if that is illegal do you think these thugs care that the handguns, which were already acquired illegally, are now banned?

I'll be honest with you, I don't have any party favourites although anything other than Liberal seems about right.

Please, STOP wasting my money!!! I work too damn hard for it to have you spend it irresponsibly!!

Oh while you are at it, consider the other other waste of my money, the gun registry. Seeing as how it is useless, do you think I can have the money back that I spent to have my firearms registered? That seems fair.

This election promise will BACK FIRE. We've just wasted 2 billion dollars on the gun registry, I don't think the electors want to waste more.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the FEDS want to endorse this, but its up to the provinces to enforce it.

I was stopped this fall by Game Wardens, they checked for my game licence, but not a word about my gun being registered. Little did they know it wasn't. HEHEHE

This whole issue is just another case of law abiding, tax paying citizens getting screwed over by crooked politicians trying to gain cheap votes because of issues created by a bunch of f***ing criminals. It's not even funny anymore, it's making me sick to my stomach.
Now they have their precious gun registry, I bet next year it'll be the Mini-14's, AR-15's and any other self loading rifle.

And then what??......All it'll take is some a**h*le to shoot some other a**h*le with a compound bow or crossbow he/she picked up at crappy tire, walmart, basspro or whatever. The media will jump all over it, then archery equipment will become the next "restricted weapon".
(they already tried with crossbows..didn't they??)

But as normal, like sheep, the Canadian people will, forget the corruption, the sheer waste of tax dollars and vote them back in.

I have to think that before this idea was made Liberal policy, there had to have been an analysis of how this would affect voting.

They MUST have calculated that this measure would buy more votes than it would cost....or it would buy the votes in the areas where the most MP's are elected.

I'm past being angry at the Liberals now. I just feel so terribly sad. It makes me so sad for the Canadian electorate. How can it possibly be so utterly stupid?

Had enough

Post by Farmer »

Just thinking about all the BS Martin and Chretien have pulled over the last decade makes me want to vomit. The saddest part is they will stop at nothing to appease what ever special interest group that will owe them. They are utterly shameless . Lie , steal, cheat , who knows what else they have done.
( Great role models )

I am very sad to say that a majority of my fellow Ontarians will most likely vote the ______________ 's in again. If they are that is it for me no more VOTING, the country gets what it deserves, the LIEberals forever.

Sorry for the rant but they are getting to me big time.

The vote is won and lost in the Toronto area. It woul d be safe to say that the majority of Torontonian's don't care about hunting or hunters rights. This bill would be a placebo and will most likely score high with the uninformed and the criminals for that matter. They must be licking their chops knowing that they are one step closer to being the only Canadians carrying guns.

Hi5..... that's exactly what this announcement is for.... lately there have been a number of shootings in Toronto and this is just a knee jerk reaction by the Liberal's to garner a few more votes..... it's not about doing what's right with the Liberals it's all about oozing that Liberal snake oil wherever they can in order to line their own pockets..... and right now Toronto is the target of choice..... I mean after all that sh*t hole sends more MP's to Ottawa than some provinces...... sorry guy's (and gal's) but I don't think that things are going to change anytime soon.... the Liberals are professionals at handing out money at election time and people eat it up every time.... and it's not like it costs the Liberals anything.... they aren't using their own money..... they buy tax payer votes with the tax payers own money and yet time after time people fall for it.... (say's a lot about the Canadian electorate doesn't it).... I know I probably don't stand a snowball's chance in the hot place since I don't have the character to be a liar and a cheat like most MP's have but if things don't change I'm going to call S.Harper and ask if he wants another candidate to run as a conservative.... the thought of being there to jerk that snake charmer P.Martin back into line would be pretty satisfying.....

sorry for the rant............

The liberals
- will ban handguns
and
- are considering  increasing the penalties for crimes commited with handguns.

I think the penalty for drinking and driving is harsher than if you were caught carrying an illegal weapon.

I second this comment: "How many crimes are commited using legal handguns?"

Here are some numbers to think about:
Lets say that 1% of homes have a handgun. Lets assume that 1% of homes get broken into every year and, if a handgun was to be found and stolen, it was. That means that every handgun owner has a 0.01% chance that his gun will be stolen every year. I don't think registered handguns are a very good source for your average criminal.

I don't know what the B&E rate really is and I am sure that most handgun owners don't hide there guns on top of their DVD player so the chances if it being found are very slim.

It should be very easy for the competition to stuff the liberals crime control tactics up their @sses.

In this country, the whole gun issue has nothing to do with law abidding citizens, hunters and hand-gun owners/collectors.

It has everything to do with (street gangs) x (drugs) = gun violence.

I'm a hunter and I don't care about handguns. I do care about my buddy who is a Metro cop working the Jane/Finch division. Anything that keeps even one gun off the street and keeps him and the rest of Toronto's finest even a little bit safer is fine with me.

Will it be perfect? No. Will it save every life at risk? No. Will it save a life someday? Likely. Is it worth the cost? What value do you place on a police officer's life? Do RIDE programs infringe on our freedom? Yes. Do they prevent all drunk driving related deaths? No. Have they saved a life by getting a drunk off the road? Yes. Worth the loss of freedom? I say yes.

Don't get me wrong guys - I think like you do - people kill people. People are gonna kill each other with spam knives, baseball bats or lead pipes or whatever is handy. Addressing the root causes of crime is the long term solution. In the mean time, I'm not bent out of shape if they ban handguns and offer our law enforcement a little better chance of coming home to their families.

I don't believe any government would ever be dumb enough to ban long guns.
