10 years with only excaliburs

My second exomag.

If they come out with a newer model; a third might enter the equation!

I've hunted three falls with my Exocet.

About 20yrs with xcals, and about 4 yrs. of verticle combined with xbow. Took the easier route and got rid of the verticle. Now they are looking attractive once again. Have my heart set on a mathews solocam or a pse vengence. I will never part with my paradox though.

Two years with my Exocet and lovin it. I'll be working in Nova Scotia off and on for the next year, so I may try my hand with a vert. N.S. has not legalized crossbows, YET.

3 years with a vertical before a shoulder injury stopped that. Went to a Astro Daco (family members) for two years then bought my Relayer the second year of production from Bill himself. So I guess that would be

Just got the exocet 2 seasons ago, and already love it hands down over the .308. Hooked.

Yes I still have the Relayer. Even though I have been told not to shoot it as it is a collector's item, it is the bow I still use and shoot today. It is as accurate today as the day I shot it at Bill's farm when I picked it up. On that day, Kathy showed how good she was with an Excalibur. From their large 6 target arrow stop, Kathy showed me that you do not shoot more than one arrow at a target at the same time.

Wow, there's a good testament as to lifetime and reliablility for ya. Tom, do you own any other Excals? Or are you exclusive to that relayer?

As for me, I've had my 165 Exocet for about 7 years or so, but have only hunted with it for 4. I've got a Wolverine, but have only been out with it a few times - I just picked it up last summer.

years hunting with a xbow

Post by wallymax »

Where I hunt you may purchase up to 6 additional doe tags. Rifle season is 2 weeks long and bow season runs from Sep 15th to Dec 31st. I wanted to extend my season so I walked into a recommended archery store and with no research at all purchased a Phoenex. My only stipulation was that the thing had optics (great ears, aging eyesight). The shop set up the bow and walked me through a few shots on the range at the back of the store. The next day I took a nice deer and spent the rest of the season watching more deer than I've seen in the last 10 rifle seasons. I even had a bald eagle land in my tree beside me for a few seconds.

I've shot my share of deer in the last 30 years but have never learn't as much as I have this past fall. I am impressed with the accuracy and simplicity of the bow. I am also impressed with this website. I have read alot since purchasing the bow (something I have never done before). I now own a rangefinder, a cammo outfit, and 3 portable treestands to add to the permanent stands on our 100 acres. Previously all I ever invested in was my .308 and an orange coat.

Of the 4 other guys I hunt with, one hunts with a vertical bow, and I suspect 2 of the others will be purchasing Excalibur xbows by next fall, which is significant as they have been hunting rifle for the last 40 yrs.

So I guess my total experience with a crossbow is just over 2 months.

Years shooting a crossbow

Post by BryanOney »

I am pretty sure I started messing with crossbows almost 25 years ago. They have been legal to use for many years here in Ohio. At first we used recurve Barnett crossbows with black limbs and wooden stocks. Then moved up to what I think was an all metal recurve Barnett Commando crossbow. Then the really long PSE compound crossbow. Next was a Barnett compound crossbow of some sort that was nice because it was so much more shorter than the PSE. After that had a Horton compound crossbow for quite a while. This was my second season for my Vixen. I have come full circle back to the recurve crossbow. Some of the brands and names of those early crossbows may be wong since I had those more than 2 decades ago.
