re Leica - yeah, yeah... who can afford it :-)
buddy of mine uses only Leica Geovid, but he shoots varmint competitevely... I used to have Bushnell Yardage pro or something
like that, it was OK

The Geovid Binos with built in range finders are tops, very popular here for Thar hunting in the Southern Rangers. The optics are out of this world which means for long periods of time you are able to glass mountain sides with no eye strain & headaches. They would suit your buddy to a T for what he does.
If it feels good, DO IT.
