Day two.

Like son, like father.

I took a gobbler this morning (4/27/06) out of the same ground blind as my son did on opening day.

I called in two and the lead dominant bird took a Wasp at 15 yards.

Time: 6:15 CST..

Details, measurements and pics later - after the taxidermy shop opens

I got into my blind at 5:00 CST. this is teh same blind that my son killed out in yesterday.

The blind is set up on a field where we had
scouted heavily prior to season. This field was next to a field of ours that
burned about a month ago. It had greened up well and the turkeys are hitting
it hard for seed and bugs.

About 5:40 I heard some gobbling on a hillside about 150 yards due East if
the field. I'm set up on the West side of the field. I gave a few yelps and
got an immediate response. I then just shut up.

The gobbling kept up and I could tell the bird was circling the end of the
field on the north. Every now and then I heard a double gobble. A hot bird
or two birds?

To make a long story short two gobblers appeared at the North end of the
field about 100 yards away. I clucked once and here they came.

The lead bird was dominant and kept breaking into a half strut as they
approached my jake and hen decoy.

When they got with 10 yards of my decoys and at 15 yards for me to shoot I
put the little green 20 yard dot right where I wanted to hit (wing butt) and
squeezed off the trigger. SMACK! Down he went.

He weighed out at 21#

He had 1 inch spurs

and a 9 1/2 inch beard.

I'm happy..

Congrats Woody!

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together! :)
Are you two sharing the same Crossbow (Tenpoint) or each have the same?
Anyway's good shooting, and Congrats to both.

We shared.

I used the Exomag while he used the TenPoint.

He is done now so I picked up the TenPoint this morning.

I used the Exomag last year to kill a turkey.

Both are fine bows.

Wooddy congratulation on a beautifull bird, did you have to retrieve it or did it just flop around where you shot it :?: Congrats Once Again :D
For me hunting is just like Mossy Oak, it's not a passion, it's an Obsession

Woody : I call em like I see em ! .... great colors , great composition , framed nicely with the bird stretching into the bottom left of the frame ...

  But you guys have had lots of practice with trophy shots ! Great to see a father and son team haveing so much fun in the field !

When I first started on the forum in 2002 .... there were not that many pictures .... and with pictures being my hobby , it's cool to see all the pictures posted today ! ... from forum members scounting trips , to actual harvests , robin hoods , equipment set-ups , to just time in the field shots .... it really spices up the stories !

Man we have a gaggle of talented photographers on the forum !

Keep em coming guys !

A picture is woth a 1000 words !
