Through my research I have found that there are many types of tanning some using nasty chemicals. That is why the private sector cannot purchase tanning solutions (and dump them down the drain). I believe “Tannit” is Vegetable tanning, which is really only a closing of the hide, which holds the fur in. If this vegetable tanning is not leather preserving tanning and the hide may absorb water, become saturated and rot. This is what I understood, but I don’t know if I am right.
