DH, what you should do is to twist the string to raise the brace height or shall I say reduce the pressure of the string against the stoppers until you get some noise. Twist the string only half a turn at a time. When you find that point drop the brace height half a turn of the string and you've probably found that the string just contacts the stoppers. You'll find that the bumpers last far longer that way.

I noticed that my sts on the right side has to be cut as it appears longer then the left sided one. I am all "thumbs" when it comes to situations as this but my friend has all the tools to perform this simple task. Could someone tell me the proper way/ tool that he should use in "cutting" my STS in order to achieve the same length for both sides. I must admit i was a little annoyed that the STS did not fit the same for each side.

I cut mine with a hack saw and proceded file them smooth and to the same length with a flat file, I then got the idea to put it in a drill press and bring down on to a flat file and kept checking till I was satisfied they were both the same length but had to be careful not to put too much pressure as it wanted to wander.

This STS system is listed as an Excalibur accessory. It's available from Bowhunters Super Store, item #BW29663B for $49.95. It does make a difference in noise. If you use it, rotate the rubber bumpers 1/4 turn about every 20 shots and the bumper will last much longer.

a word of caution on the STS. You need to send in the warranty info asap when you put them on your bow. I found my rubbers split on the contact end real fast. To get replacements which are pricey, you have to deal w/ company that makes them, at least I did. They would like to warranty the replacement rubbers if/when you need them. They have a problem w/ people making their own systems and wanting their rubber bumpers for them, lol. Think more so for the vert bow models than the xbows, but we are a nation[s] of tweakers, lol.

My latest project is trying to glue a piece of leather to the face of the rubbers to try and prolong their life. I'm held up trying to find a gasket punch I know I have somewhere, but haven't seen in about 5 yrs. I just know it's the perfect size, lol.

I go in spurts of burning arrows, decided to save my rubbers for hunting season.

From reading y'all's posts on how well you like the system, I'm thinking a slipping brace height/too much pressure may be my culprit.

I made an adjustable one by using adhesive Limbsavers stuck onto 1/4" elevator bolts (large flat head). Used a 2.5" L bracket, threaded the hole for the elevator bolt and a self locking nut keep if from loosening.

It is a little heavy but it works and I am sure it and my Boo strings have saved my bow through at least 2 dry fires

Here is the thread from 12/06

http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/phpBB2 ... t=dampener

I've shot a ton of arrows since putting it on my bow. I have since replaced the metal brackets with a hard plastic. The metal eventually breaks(Tye was right, see second post on the thread). Thus far the plastic has been very good. I had to cut apart a toy seat to get the plastic. I took the L off one corner. I used a hacksaw, it was easy enough.

The Simms Split Limb absorbers last a very long time. The only thing that will damage them is if you let the brace height get too low. The string will cut into the absorber. Especially if you are using a FFF(thinner) string.

Remember boys, you can cut the rods to lower your brace height. Just cut the rods and when you get to a certain point you then have to cut the open end of the bumpers. Of course cutting them voids the one year warranty. I lowered mine on the Y25 to 1 1/8" and will be shooting for a while. I may lower it even more at a later date.
