No matter what your decision on how to present this rack it will always have a big WOW factor to it

Its great to see some pics finally. I am impressed with his headgear. I find it amazing that the three farms work together to manage the deer, I can tell that you all abide by the rules you set for yourself. so many people get caught up in the moment and take something they may regret. I know you posted that you dont want to target one specific deer again, but its good to see you did havest this buck despite what the yote had done to him. Good luck with the future monsters.

I consider myself to be a pretty fair judge of racks. When you look at the size of that buck in the truck ( a trophy in anyones book) and then compare to those other two racks you get an idea as to how great those racks are!
The mass on that palmated monster is just unreal!

You just have to mount that rack. I doubt in my life I will ever have the chance to take a buck like that. I read somewhere that less then 1/10th of one percent of deer hunters will ever take a buck in the 160 range. Thats pretty elite company you are in Mike P.

Im sure if you asked you could get more then enough offers of a free cape from the guys here at the forum. Ill be the first to offer. It would be a privilege to have any buck i am lucky enough to take to be mounted with those antlers. It would make me happy to know that i was part of the palmated buck story!!!

It's a shamed the yotes had to put their chapter in this story of yours Mike.

Wish that part wasn't in there, but mother nature is a bi*#h. I'm sure you'll make the right decision on how you will display this buck of yours. Just knowing that we might not get to see a shoulder mount is like never being able to see him at all.

That is a really nice rack Mike. I have a smaller version, which was a shed and next year I think he was shot on the next farm over. Congrats on taking a great one.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I have decided to mount the buck and will use a cape from another buck. It will have to be a pretty large neck diameter cape (according to my taxidermist) in order for the mount to not look "freakish."

I also visited other options like desk mounts and pedestals with him and decided against going that route. My taxidermist belongs to several industry associations and enters contests every year with his work. He is going to contact other members to solicit a cape. He will donate the cape and fee associated with mounting the buck if I allow him to take the buck with him to enter several contests over the next two years. Thats a no brainer on my part.

I will post the pictures of the mount on the forum when he completes the work. I have a feeling it is going to take a while for him to find what he wants cape wise and even longer to complete the actual mount as he takes a long time with the ones he uses in the contests.

The only squabble we are having is my desire to take the rack with me to Columbus in March to the Ohio Deer & Turkey Expo. He does not want me to do this until it is mounted and I can understand where he is coming from as he would garner further recognition for his work. All of this means he is able to charge higher prices and in the end my "free" mount may end up costing us more in the long run.

It's true, there is no free lunch.

I would check in Alberta or Saskatchewan for a cape to fit that monster rack. I have seen capes for sale on Ebay every now and then. once again congrats.

Mike congrats on a great buck and ending your quest. Great decision on getting him mounted, I think you will appreciate the decision in years to come.
