I had a friend by here w/ a carved tip Vixen w/ claimed accuracy problems. The bow had a Horton multi line scope on it. Put a V-zone on it, shot great for me, he still had accuracy problems. He was hand cocking, I was using a rope cocker. once he used it, no more accuracy problems.
Smokepole Hall has the bow now, [dammit] and is attempting to kill every deer in Tn, lol.
Wabi nailed it, those Vixens are magic!

I'll second that suggestion!bstout wrote:My suggestion is to never sell your Excalibur Vixen, period.
If you'd like another model, you should purchase it only if you can afford to do so without selling your Vixen.
I'd rather wear out than rust out.

same here... i'd atleast try to keep that bow just for a backup or for target shooting. Its easy on the strings and limbs so you get more life out of itbstout wrote:Howdy and welcome to the forum.

I started with the exocet 200 and moved to the equinox.. I dont have any regrets. Both bows shoot great. The plus of the heavier bow is as you said, you can use heavier bolts

brass bolts is a good combo

moosehead my friend, sell a vixen ! never never sell a vixen, save up and buy another model Excal. speed is good & accuracy is better! stop the hand cocking if you want accuracy & get a rope cocker. as of yesterday the lightest arrows i have are 435 gr & my heaviest are 650 gr.
length of arrows i like 22" out of my phoenix & if for some reason i have to ever cut them i put them into the vixen's arrow inventory with its shorter rail and power stroke. you should watch my vixen shooting 650 gr arrows its like throwing spears. it sure will thump a tick toter out to 30 yds. fps about 230 !

I own two Vixens, one I have increased to the next power level be installing the proper shims. It used the straight riser so I was able to do that. I think it was the following year that Excalibur went to the curved riser. I'm very happy with both of my Do Do brown Crossbows cause either will get the job done. I don't plan to be a collector, cause I can't afford it. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Hey Curmudgeon (or anyone else who has done this)curmudgeon wrote:I own two Vixens, one I have increased to the next power level be installing the proper shims. What type of shims did you add? Any way of posting a pic of this modification? Is there any concern of damaging your limbs if you do this??
Thanks - Moose
You can see a photo of the riser shims I made for Greywolf here:

Also, on my older 165 carved tip Exocet I fabricated a 1" aluminum block to fit between the end of the main frame and riser. Thus giving the Exocet 1" additional stroke. It performed in a flawless and reliable manner with over 2000 shots and many strings logged with the above two mods.
Some may not agree with this type of modification. At the time I didn't have the funds to upgrade to a newer faster Excalibur model, so I modified my existing one and it cost me nothing.
