I was led here by the ravages of age, (in more ways than one actually).

I have to keep the old shoulders in shape pretty much year round to be proficient with my compound, If I let up on working the shoulder muscles, even for a little while, I limit myself in the ability to draw my bow. Injuries over the years, football, construction work etc. have taken their toll. I try to draw my bow at least 40-50 times a week.

Fast forward to early season this year, I had a herd come into my stand site second weekend, as I drew, the cable guard on my old Jennings Buck Master gave up the ghost. Parts and pieces went everywhere, just like the deer. Injured the off shoulder in the mix, plus the compound is so old, I can not find parts to repair it.

Sooo, as it appears that if I want to continue pursuing my favorite time of the year hunting, it has become necessary to choose a different venue of approach. (don't get me wrong, if they had a sling shot season, I would be involved, I just really love the early Fall though) I normally harvest between 8-12 deer per year. Live in West Tn, our limit is 3 does a day for all weapon types, two bucks only. I own my own land, and have family that wants me and my father to remove deer from their farm land. My Dad's church sponsors 100 deer per year for Hunters for the Hungry, so I am blessed in my ability to hunt and harvest.

As it was going to require an investment of dollars to get back in the game, decided to help myself on several fronts, and go with the Excalibur. I have skulked around and read as much as I could, all evidence pointed to the Excalibur line for the best results if I went crossbow.

Now I am actively pursuing learning as much as I can prior to my new Exocet's arrival. (I live so far back in the woods we have to order in sunshine). I expect the bow's arrival this next Monday. I have my Groudpounder mount in hand, and the STS should be here some time next week as well.

My other passion besides hunting is 2nd Amendment Rights, I am Director of the West TN Regional Chapter of the Tennessee Firearms Association. I am actively involved in State and local issues regarding firearms and Hunter's Rights. We are an all volunteer grassroots organization that works very hard to see to it that our children and grand children can enjoy the outdoors and hunting once us old hands are gone, as well as the Right to Keep, Bear and Wear arms, as is our due as Americans.

For me it was a combination of things. Operation on my hand, if ordering a Monster Bow might not have been ready in time to set up and practice with for the season AND remembered that PA was alllowing CBs for a trial.

Oh, have known about Excaliburs for years and even though I checked out Barnetts easily picked the Exocet 200 and also got it brtand new for a steal off eBay. Exocet = not to much, not to little = just right.

Take care...

I had to hang up my compound do to shoulder problems. Been interested in cbows for a couple of years, a little research on line led me right to Excalibur. Invested in a vortex w/verizone and groundpounder and i'm very happy! The deer here in south central Pa. better find a good spot to hide becouse this thing is deadly! Hope to post pics of first xbow kill soon.

i too am fairly new to xbow hunting. actually dual xbow compound now. june 18 had major coronary event which included sudden death on baseball field while working out with my son. luckily had an aed in the school and some great coaches in the weight room with the football team. after 4 shocks with the aed unit they got a pulse back. longer story short, ended up with pacemaker/defibrilator implant in chest. dr. put weight restriction on me for at least 3 months, put it right against opening day of archery so to be safe decided to get an xbow. did a lot of research on the bows and was no comparison. guess what, now i probably will only shoot my compound when my son wants to hunt with the xbow....freshman in college so has a lot of things going on other than hunting right now, so i have gotten to use it this season so far, love it but 2 pigs did not think much of it. excal vortex, carbon express, thunderhead 125 for pigs, vortex 2 blade 125 for deer, varizone scope......pure death.
