Great story and some equally good pics. Congrats to your bro'.
I am curious as to what area you were hunting, as my brother and I were experiencing similar moose behaviour/weather as you report - holding back unseen, but tracks and evidence of thrashing. We experienced this last season too ... recall it was a warm one also?
I've been told that when young bulls fail to show themselves there may be a dominent bull nearby. I have seen numerous 'called' young bulls arrive quickly and eager to offer their services , even after recent gunfire.
We hunt just west of Thunder Bay.

Congratulations on a nice bull!! Beautiful shot from 44 yards. Practice paid off. I'm sure it will taste great.
I was up in Timmins at my cousin's cabin last weekend. 49 grouse shot and 8 beaver trapped in three days, (setup takes a full day so really 8 beaver in 2 days). No moose though, (we only have calf tags). My brother and cousin are there for the rest of the week though so I hope that they get their minimum quota of 21 beaver and a calf.
Take care.
Danny
