hi Pyd It seems to me that you have an issue with running dogs. I have been a coyote hunter for 30 plus years and do it for the sport of running the hounds not killing the coyotes. I really don't care if I ever shoot another one.
My thrill comes from the hunt not the kill. I realize there is a place for your type of business , but bashing the methods of other hunters only hurts us all.
there is plenty of room for all hunters to get along and do what we love.
I think all these articles are a bunch of garbage and just stir up more ammunition for the anti guns and anti hunting groups. ps don't paint everyone with the same brush. Clammie

If you take the time to read what I wrote you would understand that I am not against dogs, I am against a politician who wants to pull funds from the township to do something so many guys just wish they could do, at no cost, including dog runners. His basis is that he is the only coyote hunter around.
I have said on numerous occasions that I am not against running dogs for coyotes, I do not see it as a blanket solution for this problem though.
"my type of business" is humane wildlife control, there are no funds generated by my company by hunting coyotes, just a perk of my job. My goal is to help provide access for hunters, not take it away.
As a first post I know you came from another forum to share your joy or you are an existing member here with no spine to actually speak to me. I am a hunter who sees an opportunity to help a lot of people get some new land to hunt, and participate in a good cause while they do it. Get your facts straight before you get accusational.

Having said that..
I have also been invited on a couple dog hunts since I got this going, I just may try once I have some time, so thank you.
This is also a good opportunity for some dog hunters to speak up, they are a very important part of population control. The addition of single hunters is not to replace the art of running dogs, more as a way to assist in the final goal. If you have a dog team, or are aware of one, please let me know.
My calls are pretty typical, a farmer says that every morning there is a coyote pacing his fence-line when he starts the tractor at 7:45, I simply show up at 7:30 and wait for his routine to get started, I am usually gone inside of an hour. Or a little old lady who says there is always one that watches her feed the birds and squirrels on Wednesdays after her sister leaves from tea. No dog team is going to fix that as efficiently as a single hunter, it leaves people with a sense of security and sometimes a new outlook for hunters.
I would never expect a group of people to effectively clear a bush with calls and a rifle the way a team of dogs could, 2 situations, 2 fixes. My position is that both techniques are necessary.

I happen to personally know the person to whom you are referring and make no mistake the group he hunts with is very concerned over some of his actions - as far a the political junk -- as far as I know that is just a rumor- and am not sure he could win an election anyway ( mainly because I myself have some feelings toward a political career and have run before and came in second) again I say and this is my buddies problem ( I guess he was on tv last nite with a local farmer talking about the coyote problem ) educating the public on nuisance coyotes is one thing but this whole thing is getting way to carried away . sure there are a few more coyotes around and if the hunters don't control them they will control themselves with things like mange . 2 years ago we never skinned a coyote because of it and didn't see very many around. I think this is a cycle year and there seems to be lots but I think the whole problem has gotten blown way out of hand.. ps didn't mean to be forward or argumentative -just a concerned hunter that doesn't like to give any anti gun hunting any more power than they already have - clammie

It's not a rumor, I met him at the township office yesterday and took him for a coffee to exchange views.clammie wrote:I happen to personally know the person to whom you are referring and make no mistake the group he hunts with is very concerned over some of his actions - as far a the political junk -- as far as I know that is just a rumor-
Matter of fact, when I introduced myself he said "I have heard of you, you were next on my list of people to contact". I believe this is going to work out very well for everyone, so far I have had over 100 emails, and your the only one who has showed any opposition to the hunt, ironic isn't it.

Re: Coyote hunters, I need some help.
Last year I bought my 2 year old a kitten as incentive to potty train, shortly after that it was swiped out of our yard by coyotes.
Earlier in the summer my 6 year old son and I were laying on a blanket in the yard watching a meteor shower, we heard the coyotes coming through the corn like a train. They stopped about 15 yards from us, all I had with me was a flashlight, luckily it was a fairly persuasive one. They were gone by the time I got back with a gun.
A few weeks ago my wife and I awoke to the sounds of yet another cat being snatched on the front lawn, right under our bedroom window, it was quite a mess.
The last 12 months have been extraordinarily active.

I feel for you Pydpiper. You are doing a great job - as thankless as it is!
But I just wish we could get some landowners around here on board! It's an uphill battle even though it would be of service to them. I've personally given up on the landowners in eastern ontario.
