Re: Passthrough
I've taken a few deer with my Vortex and all have been complete pass throughs. First was a small buck at 18 yds. from a 12' ladder stand. Cut through 2 rib bones going in and 2 rib bones coming out and buried 6" in the ground. Second was a doe at 25 yds. from the ground. One blade of the broadhead cut through the edge of the shoulder blade and 2 ribs coming out. I found the bolt 25 yds. from where the doe was hit. This was checked with a rangefinder as I was amazed at how far the bolt traveled after going through all that bone and other stuff. There's more than enough "whumph" with an Excalibur to take anything walking, just check out Bill T's video of taking an Elephant!!!

Re: Passthrough
This is how I look at it....
If a recurve hunter can get a passthrough then any crossbow should do the trick.
Heck even a Vixen shooting a 2219 at say 260 gps can get a passthrough it all depends on whether you can put it in the right spot.
Most crossbows shoot faster than compound bows so there is nothing to worry about especially at 345fps.

Re: Passthrough
i'm not to sure bout that crossbow compound statement TYE....take a look at most if not all compounds out on the market now, the lowest speed rated one i have seen is at 315fps....my 08 exocet 200 is shooting under 300fps....my old 1993 compound bow only shoots at 215fps with pass through's ....
DEPUTY we are gonna have to get that xbow shot through a chrony and see where it is at speed wise.........bob

Re: Passthrough
Compounds never shoot the IBO speed rating.
Most hunting setups shoot slower.
Most bows rate 315-340 ish but really only shoot 240-270 ish maybe with a 400-450 gr arrow.

Re: Passthrough
I just harvested this beautiful doe last Sunday afternoon. As you can see from the picture the arrow entered her ribs just below and right of my left knee. It traveled down and through her torso and exited out her right shoulder seen just below my right knee. Then three feet further and buried half-way into the dirt. One of the three razor blades was shattered, probably from hitting the shoulder.
I was shooting a Vortex, firebolt shaft, G5 Striker w/3 blades @ 100grs, and a Wyvern string. My estimated speed was probably about 320fps. I think that with the technical abilities of today's modern equipment we would be hard pressed to find equipment that couldn't pass an arrow through anymore.

Re: Passthrough
what min weight arrow do those compound companies say not to go under like excalibur says 350gr arrow....kinda false advertisment stating 340fps but only get 280fps .........bobTYE wrote:Compounds never shoot the IBO speed rating.

Re: Passthrough
I am using the stock carbon arrows that come with the bow (which I have no idea how heavy they are) and 125 grain 2 blade rage broadheads. Does anyone in the know, know how much those arrows now weigh? Smart me I buy a crossbow and know nothing of its components.

Re: Passthrough
all companies put the top speed they get from the lightest arrow on their sites.. I hate that since as said its usually 50fps slower than they tell you.
Chrono is the best tool to have on hand
im not sure what your arrows weigh btw.. its to many different types. Which came with the bow? Try a search on google for him and they will give you the grains per inch weight

Re: Passthrough
his arrows weigh 440gr and have a FOC of 11.6% ....when he shot his xbow they can't be going 345fps compaired to mine at 295fps with a 550gr arrow....i'd say his are going 285fps bout without a chrony ........bob
