Hey I know the thumb feeling,a few years back I was docking a 14 ft aluminum boat and put my hand on the dock at the same time the wake from the boat lifted it up and then down on the my thumb thus tearing the nail CLEAN OFF !!
My first day of a week fishing trip needless to say we had to make an extra run to the LCBO!!

Keep us posted on your deer.

No, buck fever did it to me. I didnt have a rest, it was offhand. The bow was on my lap before the shot and when he came in I quickly raised the bow and took the shot without moving my thumb from where it was beside the rail while on my lap. Stupid mistake, I fired with concentrationg too much on the deer and not enough on my form. Its a lesson I wont soon forget though. I cant find the buck. I searched every where, three times over. The woods, fencelines, the creek, even walked every 5th row of corn to find him. A lot of bright clored blood initially, but it seemed to come to a stop after 50 yards or so. Its a crappy feeling to put a shot on a deer and not have it go down.

Sorry to hear you whacked your thumb. I hope it gets better quickly. :)
Also sorry to hear you were not able to recover your deer. :(

So sorry to hear about your injury and the buck that got away, Neil. Hopefully you'll both heal and be 100% back in the game again soon! In the meantime, your wife can sneak out for some time in the woods! :)

Too bad about your thumb and the buck. Its such a bummer when you can't recover a critter. Had that happen myself last season. I did everything except turn the dirt over.....never found it.
