Welcome to the Excalibur forum oneshot44.
You're going to love that new Vortex.
As for the broadheads I shoot the G5 Striker 125gr. Once sighted in they shot consistently from my Vortex. The tips are durable too. Last season I took two deer using the same broadhead with no decrease in sharpness to the chisel tip. Both shots were complete path thru that buried in the ground. All I did between hunts was replace the blades on the head.
Whatever you use I hope you have a successful hunt this fall.

Welcome aboard!
I used Rage 2 blades with my vert, so I'm gonna try the XB versions this year. Fly straight and left a gaping exit wound.
Following the advice of the other fine posters, I opted to get some 1" slick tricks to try for turkey. I want some meat left...

I switched to the new Rage xbow heads about a month ago for my vortex- deadly accurate- fly just like field points.
Take time to enjoy each & everyday that GOD has given us- be thankful.

Re: New Cross bow hunter here
I tried the Thunderheads once, and found out pronto quick that they do not work too well with crossbows. In my opinion, large fixed broadhead don't go to well with the shorter crossbow arrows. The reason appears to be that the larger broadheads need a longer arrow which can act like a rudder and minimize planing.
The broadheads I use and have had the most success with are the fixed head Slick Trick, and Montec G5 in both 100 and 125 grain weights.
