The only tender fried squirrel is the young ones ,, my friend and I try to harvest enough for two dinners a year ,, we mark the old ones for dumplings and fry the young ones ,, old ones can be fried if they are what my mother call's par boiling to tender them up a little ,, they are a delicious ,, veggys and bisquit & gravey ,, we enjoy the greys better than the fox ( red ] ones ,, rifle shot are easier on the teeth 2 !!!!!!!

my mom always boiled it for a while till tender and then coated and fryed it .hard too beat fryed squirrel!

that,s the way we do it..or you can boil till tender and put them in a pan and make brown gravy..either way hot buttered biscuits has to be added

I've been eating squirrels for 55 years, must have eaten a box car load. Daddy always tried to shoot the young ones, but if an old one showed up it was in the same sack. Mama always fried the young ones and made either squirrel and dumplings or squirrel and rice with the older ones. The fried front legs of a young squirrel cannot be beat, but them old ones were mighty good in dumplings. Yes, Mama rolled out her own dumplings. She never had a pressure cooker, just boiled in a pot until the meat fell off the bones. Dang, I miss that!!!
