Alot of careful planning and study would go into there decission and who are we to question them.

We have every right to question them as a consumer of their product. Competition should also produce a product that is better quality, not one that is less expensive to produce to increase profits. Time will tell about the direction of the bows, but maybe when Equinox or Vortex changes their will be more questioning.

Unfortunately, the consumer can create this problem too. It would be interesting to see if both bows were offered to see which one would out sell the other. I'd be willing to bet the cheaper of the 2 would out sell the other. The only ones who are to blame are the consumers.

All day long I will buy quality, especially when it's a product of this nature, our fast paced disposable world is taking it's toll on quality, though!

Not much to question. The Axiom SMF has been on the market for a year now and they're selling like hotcakes. That market place, both retailers and consumers, were demanding a quality bow kit that included everything you need to go out and shoot (bow, scope, quiver and arrows) all for around $500. The answer was to design a rail that was cheaper to manufacture (as explained by Doemaster) but would not adversely affect performance. This, along with the cheaper non adjustable scope allowed them to compete in this segment of the market. Following the success of the Axiom the Ibex is now being offered as a thumbhole version of this budget minded kit. You are right, Excal has to listen to their customers. They have and the result is this SMF series of bows. People on a forum like this tend to be a little more hardcore about their equipment but the truth is most people pay more attention to the price and the fact that it has lots of camo than anything. Don't think you'll be seeing the entire Excal line changing to SMF rails anytime soon. They still have a good share of the higher priced market but the market over all is growing and becoming more competitive. Excal has to keep up with demands for a more diverse product line. The days of niche marketing are over.

An excellent point, that if Excal diversifies there product and offers one for the masses and one for the hardcore folks, they can keep more of the market share. Every sport has it fly-by-nighters, so offering models of different levels and varying costs should help retain a good market share.

Sorry, I'm not an employee but I, like a number of others here on this forum, do have some closer connections with the company. Can't quote exact numbers but I do believe the Equinox and Axiom are the current top selling bows. Probably reflects a fair assessment that there is a large segment that wants speed and power and a large segment that wants good value for their money. The rest of us kind of fill in the blanks in between.

Lol, so would every competitor in the business. I can tell you before the thumbholes came out, the Emax was biggest seller in USA and the Phoenix in Canada.

As for whatever concoction you are after, search thumbhole vixens. Some have wanted one for yrs, and made up their own. Add me to the traditional stock crowd.

I bought my bow from the warranty guy. I will probably contact him this week to get his insight.
