I'm just a newb but thought the purpose of the wax was to reduce friction between the serving and rail? What is the benifit of applying it to the string?nchunterkw wrote:... and do not wax the serving - just the string....

The one in my avatar was taken this last winter right behind my house. There's quite a few where I live, I don't bother them, they don't bother me.
They did thin out my neighbor's chickens though....
I have a picture of one with a chicken foot hanging outta it's mouth

I do not agree with Excals idea of using Wax on the serving or rail as they used to claim. The old wax was sticky and to my mind slows things down. I have always used rail lube and now that I bought my Parker xbow I bought their lube and wax. The wax is more fluid not as sticky and works right into the string and the lube is really slippery. Good stuff from what I can see so far.

Thanks Dan,I originally linked to the fluid version of that product. However in the product description it says to use only on areas of the string that do not contact the bow.

Again, the wax and lube goes a long way. I recall a conversation with Boo and I hope I get this right! Dalton's is another great choice by the way! Waxing the serving also is a benefit to string under the serving. If the string becomes real dry the strands will start to cut into each other when cocked. If I'm not mistaking.

Re: Scorpion Venom Rail Lube vs Excalibur Serving wax?
I use a premium car wax on the rail a couple of times a year . . .use the one you like the best, there are several.
I use "Finish Line DRY Lube made with Teflon® fluoropolymer" on the rail before I start my practice shooting . . .I use it on the arrows too.
I wax the serving about every 25 shots . . .it helps preserve the serving, gives me about 25% more shots before having to reserve. You can shoot without the wax, but, I saw no difference in speed or accuracy . . .just a difference in the serving wear.
I used the WD 40 in the early days . . .it does make the rail slick, but, after a while, there is a build-up of dust/dirt particles. Anything that goes on wet and stays wet, will attract dust and dirt.

I'd rather wear out than rust out.
