shooting a 380 that rope cocker needs to go where ever the bow goes. ask Norm and JP how it goes without one. Make a bad shot on a deer you will of wished you took it to the stand.Hi5 wrote:Spare one for camp/home, or, in a tree stand?
It won't wear and suddenly fail. There will be warning signs so you can take steps ahead of time. As far as losing it is concerned, I would not consider this piece of equipment any more at risk of loss (or failure) than any other. I wouldn't be bringing it with me to a tree stand.

Thanks everyone. I'm convinced. I've ordered a spare.

Re: Do I need a spare cocking rope?
I perhaps misunderstood.
I didn't think he was asking if OWNING a spare was a good idea, but whether it was something to carry during hunting. I wouldn't be without a cocking aid in my pocket or packsack, either.
I just can't see the need to carry a spare while hunting, any more than a spare flashlight, spare hunting knife, etc.

Re: Do I need a spare cocking rope?
Hi5, my thought is to keep the spare in my bow case. That way, if something happens to the one I carry with the bow to my treestand, I'll only have to trek back to my truck rather than all the way home.
BTW, even though I like my pack to be as light as possible, I always carry a small backup flashlight. It's easy to get turned around the night of a new moon. A broken flashlight with no backup could leave you in a pickle. I usually hunt with a friend. We carry radios. I'm thinking of upgrading to one of the new Motorolas that have a small built in flashlight. That way I won't have to have a separate backup flashlight. Less is definitely more, especially when hunting in the mountains.

Re: Do I need a spare cocking rope?
I cock the bow at the stand, or in the blind, and it's yanking on the string on the way in! But I got a spare in my back pack, just in case! Yep, carry a climber, and had to cock the Vortex once in the stand, and the 355 once too! This will be hunting year number two with the Xbow for me, and I learned all the bad habits last year!

Re: Do I need a spare cocking rope?
My new $17.57 Excalibur cocking rope came today with a bonus. It was in a kit that allowed you to cut it to any length for any xbow. After I cut the rope to perfectly fit my M380, I realized I had enough extra rope to replace the rope again if it gets frayed or cut. I'll just have to put a note on it so I remember in ten years what it's for

Re: Do I need a spare cocking rope?
Ill get a spare when im ready to go hunting. Did anyone ever hand cock a M380?
Re: Do I need a spare cocking rope?
Most likely someone has, but it will never be me.Pinesap wrote:Ill get a spare when im ready to go hunting. Did anyone ever hand cock a M380?
I cocked my Exomax a couple of times by hand but the strain is more than what my hands want to tolerate and I won't be doing it again.
I've got three Excalibur bows and each has a cocking aid set up for it and there is a spare in the truck.
Whichever bow I pick up to shoot, no more looking for an aid!!!

Neil, "oneshotscot" can cock the 380 all day long with his fingers I remember in an earlier post.Pinesap wrote:Ill get a spare when im ready to go hunting. Did anyone ever hand cock a M380?

Re: Do I need a spare cocking rope?
Holy Cow! Norm, Oneshotscott must be an absolute ANIMAL! (I say that as a compliment). I could cock my old exomax by hand all day but I didn't even attempt it with my M380. I just tested it and thought no thank you! Good on ya Scott.enormous wrote:Neil, "oneshotscot" can cock the 380 all day long with his fingers I remember in an earlier post.Pinesap wrote:Ill get a spare when im ready to go hunting.
