Up my way---the so called experts---have said to use wasp and hornet spray.
Can be bought just about anywhere and IS NOT ILLEGAL and the concentrated spray carries a farther distance even in a breeze.

I've shot a good number of bears with my rifle and my compound. Between a lot of studies I've read and my own experience it seems that bears are much like people in a way. Different bears have different temperaments and there's no hard and fast rule as to how to deal with them. Anywhere I've hunted throughout B.C. and Alberta I've always carried bear spray. I even carry it fishing the rivers. The way i see it, It's better to have it and not need it. Curious question for anyone in Jersey, can you legally carry a side arm? Is it an option to get licensed or get a carry permit?
You're only paranoid if everyone isn't out to get you.

Unless you are a cop you cannot carry a sidearm for any reason in NJ. As far as permits go, you have a better chance of winning the lottery. If you want a real shot of heart racing medicine ,try getting a 100 pound cub out of a coyote snare without needing a box of bandaids! It took me over 45 minutes to get a cub out of one of my coyote sets a few years back, something I don't care to do again....
