Re: My Micro's first kill
Hey, this is my first post and question. I purchased a Micro 335 and I was able to harvest a doe on Monday with it. The first Monday of the archer season in Pa I shot an 8 point with a Parker crossbow using a 100 grain Rage Hypodermic. I was really impressed with the broadhead, pass through and quick recovery as the deer only went 30 yards. The doe I shot I was using a 150 grain Boltcutter and I wasn't impressed at all. The deer went 70 yards with a lung shot with very little blood trail at the beginning.
My question is can I shoot a 100 or 125 grain Rage Hypodermic using the Quills that came with the bow? It says that 150 grain heads are recommended I had good accuracy with both field points and broadheads. Can anyone give me some input? My season is over for this year but I want to know what I can do with my setup. I'm limited with my experience with crossbows, owning the Parker last year and using it the beginning of this season. Totally new to the Excalibur, but I really like the simplicity of the bow. Thanks for any help and or advice.

Re: My Micro's first kill
I can tell you that you can shoot five different deer with the same type of broad head and get different results every time.
If a deer is hit from the ground high in the chest you are likely to get little blood right at the start as the chest cavity will have to fill up. You'll get what is blown out of the mouth right away but not too much else.
I hunt ground blinds mostly now and really miss that lower hole I used to get when I was 25 feet up in a tree.
Having said that I like Spitfires but to each his own.
I shot the quills this year with a Razor trick that was a 100 grains and they flew fine. JMO

GUS, you're killin' me here. I can't wait to take a poke at a spring Blackie. I've got 22 five gallon pails of fryer grease and two five gallon pails of Mystery meat just waiting for the May sunshine to ripen it for call bait. Then raid the wife's pantry for pure Vanilla extract, but a half ton of oats and molasses and Voila!
I see you haven't trained your bears to bait their own like mine do....

From what I've seen with my bow 125gr would be good on the Quills.Ron M wrote:Hey, this is my first post and question. I purchased a Micro 335 and I was able to harvest a doe on Monday with it.
