Grey Owl,

I know you can only hunt with a crossbow during rifle season. The rule changed last year. I will look into the muzzleloading question.

Taken From Alberta Gov Website:

"Since the fall season of 2002, cross-bows are not "prohibited" for hunting wildlife in Alberta, although there may be federal licensing requirements (click here to view Federal Firearms Legislation).

Cross-bows may not be used to hunt big game during archery-only seasons. The only exception is for an eligible handicapped hunter who has obtained a cross-bow licence.
A Bowhunting Permit, as required by bowhunters using conventional archery equipment, is not required by persons who are hunting with cross-bows during seasons not designated as archery only.

In accordance with federal regulations, cross-bows may not be used for waterfowl hunting.
Persons hunting big game with a cross-bow must use an authorized cross-bow and arrow (bolt). An authorized cross-bow is one that requires 100 pounds or more of pull to draw the string or cable to its cocked position. There is no restriction on arrow length however the tip must bear a sharp, unbarbed 3 bladed bodkin head or a sharp steel unbarbed cutting head of at least 7/8 inch in width."

It doesn't say anything about muzzeloaders...

Proper exposure is one of the most important factors when trying introduce any new product. That's why advertising and marketing are multi-billion dollar businesses. The more that something is exposed, the better chances it has of "selling" or in the case of crossbows, being approved and excepted. So LW, I suggest you post in as many forums as you can, but more important try to get the local support.

I'd be nice if you could use a Xbow during the Muzzleloader season. Here we can, but not during Archery season. You see the compound boys say that its THEIR season, not Xbow'ers. Haven't figured that one out yet!!

But no worries, Oct., Nov., and Dec. are just fine by me. To hot in September anyway.

I'm real pumped about the coming season. Had a caterpillar come last week to open up a new trail through our property, about a mile and a quarter long. I'm starting real soon to clear shooting lanes for the coming season.

I'll be ready this time!!!

Thanks Woodsman,

I figured they hadn't yet made any changes.

The thing is that too many people have this false belief that a crossbow is a long distance hunting tool, which we all know is way far from being the truth. These people obviously need to be educated on the crossbow. There are too many people who really truly believe that the crossbow can shoot virtually flat out to distances of up to 100 yards. I've had a few guys ask me if my bow was good out to 100 yards, but after I let them people who have them beliefs shoot it a few times at unknown distances they soon realize that they were mistaking, big time...

Thanks

LW
