How to deal with SPAMMERS
And sorry to say but all the spammer has too do is BUMP or TT or reply to their own post. I have some soft ware running now, but it takes time to chase from proxy to proxy to track them down. It seems to be working and I have warned and reported a few of the SEX posters but the RX stuff is just spam nothing to be upset about. Not worth the time to track down.
Always learning!!

Tom,
The big problem is that some forum members just can't resist adding their witty comments to the spammers post, which keeps the crap stirred!
Bill T. needs to get a couple of the regulars on the moderator's list or this stuff will never end. I understand Bill's reluctance to add moderators from the aspect someone could get "power drunk" and interfere with members freedom to post, but if that happens Bill can also remove moderators from the list
If you notice, the major spam attacks are on weekends and during trade shows when the moderators aren't keeping a close eye on things. If I figured that out, I bet a spammer can, too! The answer - have moderators that are online 24/7

Wabi I do not think that it is so much along the lines that the spamers are posting purposly during those times. I bet that some are doing that, but I have noticed spammers during regular hours, but they disapear real quick. It is just that in the after hours posts from spammers, they stay longer (Peter is not around as much) so we notice them more.
As for the need of more moderators, it might be nice but I think that us users of this forum can self police the forum without the need of more moderators.

Tom, the only ones that can "police" the forum are those with the power to edit or delete posts. They are called moderators, and being a moderator doesn't mean you can dictate to the members, it simply allows you to edit or delete objectionable posts. Bill T could have a couple moderators with that power who visit regularly and not endanger "freedom of speech" by regular members. Anther possibility might be to require "moderator approval" of new members before they can post. Then if a sexy russian lady shows up they could simply not approve her access to the forum. As for the need of more moderators, it might be nice but I think that us users of this forum can self police the forum without the need of more moderators.

Those spammers (and telemarketers too) deserve to develop some chronic itching disease that makes them scratch till their fingernails wear off, or they need a blood transfusion, whichever comes first. In case you have any doubt, I don't like them either!
I think, though, that we need to be careful that our complaints don't also become an aggrevation to our hosts. Our hosts apparently have considered appointing moderators, but decided against it. If they can live with the bother of scrubbing out the spam, which they do, surely we guests can simply ignore it.
(I hope this doesn't come across as a put down or a challenge, because that isn't my intent.)
