i love the hunt and everything about it the scouting the feeding the pictures the challenge of it but the kill is still the highlight of it for me. now in my case i can only kill one deer a year so i don't have the dilemas that some of you have with the use of the meat . i pass on does and fawns and younger bucks while i wait for a good shooter buck and usually late in the season ( end of nov early dec) it all comes together and that makes everything else worthwhile without the kill as said before it is only wildlife photography and enjoying the peace and quiet

I've been in Hot Springs, Ar. since late Thurs hunting urban deer. Mostly I've just been killing time. Got to meet a new Excal owner [Emax] from Tx, showed him what little I know about them, got one more chance in the am. Hung a two man ladder stand for my bud here today, got some "Buck Bombs" [yewhh!] Just enjoying life. Yesterday, about 10 am we watched a doe come out in the yard and sniff a bag target at 50 yds. Proud to report none of the three of us even thought about grabbing our xbows. She did look tasty, though. Every day above ground is a good one.

Just reviewed my "Bowhunter Observation Record" I fill out for the Ohio DNR each year, and I'm definately a "hunter" not a "killer".
33 hours in the stand or blind so far, 99 deer observed and 0 killed to date.

I have ligitimate PASSES on three deer this season already so I may have shifted slightly toward being a hunter rather then just a killer. I just DON'T let deer walk. That being said I'm gonna kill the next thing that walks by with the only exception being BB's.

Why BB's are sacred and forks are not I won't ever figure out but what the hey. You either shoot mature deer or everything is fair game. If you want to shoot less than a mature deer just call it a "CULL" buck like the pro's on the other forums. :?
No brainer, John, you're a "keeper". While I'm at it, check out canning that extra venison you can't give away. Excellent fare, easy to do, lasts forever.

I hunt to kill ... because I am a predator.

Sometimes I'm a successful predator, and sometimes I'm not.

Fortunately, since (like most of mankind) I was not born into the hunter/gatherer lifestyle, I have meat in storage and do not face hunger when I'm unsuccessful! :D

Since I'm also an omnivore, I prefer to delay feasting on my kill until I can include some potatoes and carrots, or some other tasty plant life. :D

I too enjoy the whole process, but consider the distinction a moot point for true sportsmen. There are "killers" out there who are driven by bloodlust, but I do not think they are the same sort of people as hunters.
