Why did you come back from Texas so soon? It's still winter up here. I'll bet it's already starting to look like spring down there. Take care of that cold! Gary

Re: Boo's stock
Finally getting better. OK. The first photo is the way I make sure the top of the stock is parrallel to the rail.
This photo is of using a spindle sander to square up the curved part of the top of the rail.
This photo is of locating the trigger using the crossbow rail butted against the butt end of the stock rail. (trigger relaxed)
The last pic is the trigger engaged which would be the butt end of the trigger slot. Just square the marks around to the inside of the rail and drill out the trigger slot.

Hey Mike, I want to do an oil finish. Do you or know or anything about boiled linseed oil/tung oil/Deftoil Danish Oil Finish or any others? Any opinions? http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/Search.aspx?action=n
Does anyone have an opinion?

B.L.O. is a nice finish that you can touch up without removing old finish first....i apply it with a fine plastic scotch brite pad equal to 0000# steel wool....my maple T/C stock was done in B.L.O. with 12 coats and i haven't needed to touch it up since 06 .........bob

Re: Boo's stock
I've used BLO for years. I cut it 50/50 with turpentine. I sand the first two coats right into the wood with 320 paper, wiping off the excess in a couple of hours. The bad part is it takes a lot longer to dry between coats than most other finishes. You have to make sure the previous coat is oxidized before putting on another or you will have a real mess. I built a box 12" X 12" X 5' tall and put two 40 watt lightbulbs in it. I hang the wet stock in the box and it really speeds up drying. Temp. in the box gets to 95°.
I used Tru-Oil on the last stock I made and wished I would have used BLO. You will get a darker finish with BLO with good contrast between light and dark wood. Gary

Re: Boo's stock
I used Cabot's Spar Varnish in a Satin finish. The Spar Varnish was the overall recommendation from several folks. I chose the Satin because I didn't really want the "real shinny" finish. This if tough stuff . . .UV protection & marine durability. I'm hoping it keeps the stock looking brand new for years to come . . .even when I use it as my #1 hunting weapon. Rain, snow, sleet . . .or hot Georgia sunshine.
If Mike adds any of the orange wood, then you will want UV protection for it.
So far, so good. But, I only have one season under it's sling.
THAT STOCK IS LOOKING TOO GOOD . . .stock envy . . .

This pic is of the trigger hole finished out so the trigger has good travel
This is something that Don wants to cure an overheated rail. He shoots a lot.
These three pics are of a jig I threw together to make it easlier to make the slots.
next pics of how it turns out. Thanks for looking; Mike

Re: Boo's stock
Stock is short so I made just two slots. Don will have to shoot less to keep the rail from overheating
