I shoot a naked Vixen as well. It's loud as I use a low brace height and a string with fewer strands to try to pick up a few extra fps for competing with the faster bows at 3D. No whiskers, no nothing. I shoot pretty much exclusively outdoors so shooting indoors last week it seemed uber-loud. I had to consciously work on not flinching until I got used to the sound.
The point is that you do "get used to the sound" - it does get to where it doesn't bother you anymore. That's less expensive and makes for a lighter, somewhat faster bow - my preference!
