FWIW the smaller profile BH's don't use as much energy in penetration as the larger ones do. Other designs do, as in the Toxic wid its clover leaf style. I shot the 7 pt usin 347gr arrow at 303 fps 3' in front of chrony & it had a 2" BH pass-through exit. Spect if'en it were another 30gr or so heavier it would have been on the ground on site of shot. Or used a faster model Excal

I'm glad you fellas can get those NAP Thunderheads to work for you. I tried them a few years ago when I started with cb's and had trouble with them always planing. Never could get them to group worth a darn past 20 yards. After using the Boltcutters I went to the NAP Spitfire XP pro's when they came out and still use them even though they've been discontintued. Was able to pick up 18 new bh's from a guy a while back, so still have 15 that are new. Should hold me for a couple years. I got a decent deal on some 2 blade RAGE Xbow 125g with the new cup retainer design earlier this year. Was going to give those a try out of my Matrix, but haven't had anything walk in front of me big enough to shoot at yet.

Why not use a fixed blade broadhead .........
The answer is, I want accuracy with the larger cutting diameter heads. Yes you can get larger cutting heads to be very accurate, but when you get into windy conditions, especially when it is a cross wind the larger heads seem to wonder or plain as other have said. I also do not have a problem with the extra maintenance needed for mechanicals to make sure that they are in hunting condition.
It does not matter what hunting head you use, there will be times that factors determine that a miss will happen, and most people then blame the style head they use, not the shooter .
I use the mechanical head because I want to eliminate most if not all variables which might cause a miss. If I miss, the first thing I look at is me, not the bow or arrow or hunting head. This is why I shoot Excalibur with Spitfires.

Re: Why not use a fixed blade broadhead?
Until I built a proper arrow, fixed blades gave me problems with my vertical bows as well.
My crossbow now and vertical bows before are shot with 500 grain arrows.
FOC has been critical for dependable flight.
Blazers were a big improvement over regular vanes on arrows bought off the shelf.
Now mechanicals have their place even for me. I use a big mechanical on a minimum weight arrow for turkey hunting exclusively.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to convert to either or.
It's clear to me that both types shoot well when used properly.

I love my 100grn slick tricks. Of course most any broadhead will put em down if you do your part .

Re: Why not use a fixed blade broadhead?
One overlooked benefit of an expandable is if you do a lot of stalking and moving around like on a mule deer or elk hunt you load and on load your arrow sometimes a dozen times a day . I like the fact that with a mechanical head there is little to no chance that in the heat of the chase I will nick my string and ruin my hunt.
