Re: A BOAR HUNTING I GO***Story of the Hunt***
Hi all, I'm still in Alberta. All packed up and ready to fly home in the early am....but listening to my buddy snoring in the bunk next to mine.
Well, it's been an unusual trip this year with unusually warmer weather than I've ever seen here at this time of year. It did hit from -2 to -7 but actually rose just above zero most days. Very strange. Day one was uneventful with some hogs spotted but no shots fired. Day two was the same for me as day one but my buddy arrowed a nice 170lbs boar with his compound. Day three, I'm still hunting from a ground blind over bait but I'm just seeing some young hogs and some sows. I see a monster come in but I get no shot. He's checking the sows to see if they're in season and he has no interest in eating. This isn't looking good but i do manage to shoot my own 170lbs boar with a solid quartering away shot than passed through two ribs and both lungs. It was about a 40yard recovery from where I shot him. Turns out my buddy shot another hog about the same size again and needed some help with recovery. I went in with him and there was decent blood to follow. We found the hog about 50 - 55 yards from where he shot it but still alive. It wasn't running but was walking. Those dang willows were just a tangled mess. I'm ten yards away and no shot available. Finally, the hog walks again and I have a small window to put one in the back to go up into the vitals. I wouldn't normally take this shot but once an animal is wounded I just want it over as quickly as possible and I had no other option. I make the shot and the pig runs about twenty yards and piles up. Well, we really polluted the area with all the racket and recovery but what can you do! When I saw his shot placement it looked good and the field dressing revealed something I just don't understand. Both lungs had a perfect X going through them from a 100gr Slick Trick standard broadhead. How's it even possible for a double lung hit animal to survive over an hour!???
Anyway, that was day three. It wasn't looking very promising for finding a big boar. I'll have to finish DAY 4 tomorrow because I'm falling asleep despite the logging happening eight feet away. Sorry about that but day four is more exciting and I can't stay awake another second. I'll catch up with y'all a little later.

Congrats on the harvest and good job recovering , That is quite a mystery on the double lung shot not putting it down , I know single lung shots most offten are not fatal .

Congratulation's Paul !!!
