Tell me, was there much of a blood trail since he was shot pretty much horizontally? Hear tell there is less blood trail than when shot from a elevated stand. At 67 I'm going ground blind next year. To many elevated stand accidents around here lately. (A friend fell asleep and fell out. Badly bruised inside and out but while he was there 2 others were in surgery).
Oh, what kind of bow is that? ( Sorry, the devil made me do that).
The Dude gets and early Christmas present!

Cossack,
There was a very good blood trail, the snow of course helped there too but I don't think hunting from the ground would effect the blood trail at all. I like the ground, every year I meet people in wheel chairs that suffered a fall from a tree stand and it scares the heck out of me. Plus, I just hate heights!
The bow I use is a prototype Vortex, its all beat up since it was to many trade shows but it is unique! My bow is not even textured as it was one of the first 4 we ever produced and the colour is very brown too...did the job though!
Happy New Year everybody!

Congrat's Peter !! .... What a beauty buck ! , I know that buck .... I hunt the property across from George Wagners ..
George called the other day to tell me he is putting a 25th Aniversary Relayer aside for me ... He mentioned you were at his property when you got the buck ...
Congrat's again ... he outsmarted me a few times this season ... I bumped into him a coule of times ... and was glad to see someone we know took him .... A real nice buck ! .... Part of the decent gene pool from that area .... way to go ! .... Happy New Year !

That's interesting R.J. that you knew the buck, I had never seen him before and actually all I ever saw were doe's. George is a good friend and was nice enough to offer me the opportunity to hunt his land this year, he really has the land for only him and his family so the offer was very gracious. His place is only 8 minutes from my house so it is very handy for me. My season was dismal at best and I had been working that area all season with little success. But that night I saw 4 bucks so next year should be exciting.
Not only did George let me hunt his land he also helped me drag the deer out of the woods which was no small job ( I thought I was going to die from heart failure!). George also educated me in the fine art of butchering too so I got the whole experience, I owe this buck to him and I made sure he got some of the meat! Our season has just come to a close and I can barely wait until next year!
Happy New Year All!

Yep George is a great guy for sure ! ..... Bought my first crossbow from him when he handled the Bow side of out of the Buck+Bow shop ( it was a Daco Hornet ) .... Then later my first Excalibur Relayer from him in the 80's when he was in St Jacobs ... Many Excaliburs have changed hands since then ... Last year he put me onto a couple of beauty boxed Wolverines for the collection ...

I hear ya ! .... not an easy haul in that spot !

I cant say for sure it was him but if it wasn't it was his twin brother !
.... I had a face to face with him at 5 yards on the way in one afternoon ... saw him again twice but fleeting glimpses , never had a chance to get the bow or camera on him before he was high tailing it to the other side ...
As for the does .... Sandman and I hunted that spot ( across the road ) last night ... it seemed like a beauty evening and things looked good until something busted the bedding area early and 8 does came out too fast ... Sandman got a good look at the last one , it was a buck with both sides dropped , he had two blood buds left where the antlers had been ... couldn't stop any of the deer for a shot , but it was a cool ending to a fun season !!
Anyway ... some beauty bucks from the gene pool in that area .... but they didn't get big by being stupid !
And I found them very spooky this season ...
I'm going to dig thru some picture files and PM you what I think are some of his relatives ...
Congrat's again , a great looking buck , great field shot of him as well !
