You did not say. I want to be sure you are doing this as well.
Are you drying your feathers before you start splitting and grinding ? If so how are you doing it and for how long ?
What are you doing to keep the mites from eating your feathers ? How do you store your feathers ?

interesting! I shoot feathers on my vert. bow, arrows. becoming somewhat expensive. would be neat to learn to do this...

Diesel, i do not dry them out at all ( unless i have dyed them, then at least 48 hrs).
As far as storage, i keep them in large watertight/airtight rubbermaid tote with 2/3 moth balls to keep the mites from eating all my feathers. I learned that the hard way 5/6 years ago when i lost ALL of my feather stock to them little buggers !!
