I've been around guys similar to you more times than I'd like to mention, A lot while on tour myself years ago, I am proud to be from a military family myself ,my brother,dad his dad in fact back to civil war, for the south. That was killing...But none of us sat around tellin stories of the blood and guts and hardships of it. Or sticking our chests out. But we have always said harvest being it from the field out of the earth, or a deer,hog. whatever from the woods. And after any animal I do take I've always gave thanks. We sir... are from different sides of the track. And I prefer to stay on my side..Simple as that....
Well thanks. I havnt told any stories. I just made a joking point and in the old books it stated killed from the MNR. As for war stories, my 35 + yrs of serving. with tours from Cyprus (party) to Afghanistan with 2 IEDs under me and lose of 6 good friends. Lets me say killing so be it.

cdarmyguy.... Look maybe my first post was a little ruff, I do get defensive sometimes to quickly, I do appreciate your service sir! I never meant to bash what you do, and are doing for your country and mine, NEVER. And if you got that impression I sincerely apologize. I am me. And you are you. And this killing or harvesting matter is closed as far as I'm concerned, it has become trivial good day.........

I think it comes down to the company you keep, and the way you want your words to be taken.
I use all the words. I always thought that "whacking" an animal was related to the sound of the arrow making contact, this thread shows me not everyone thinks like that.
I use "harvest" most of the time, it is part of our regulations here, never looked at it than more than a word.
I talk about hunting all the time, to hunters and non hunters alike, just seems like the right word.
I could say "kill" and not think twice about it, but as mentioned, in certain company a bit of common sense goes goes a long way.
If someone takes their pet to a vet for its last breath, the vet will call it "euthinize", he could say he was about to kill your pet, but common sense and professionalism tells him not to. Most of us has put a pet down, very few will say they killed thier dog. It's words, and perception.
Sometimes judgement overrides habit, sometimes choice of words can make make a difference to someone who harbors deep feelings to death.
I know if my vet said to say goodbye to my dog before he kills it, I would see it in in a different light. End result is the same.

Ted Nuggent is a complete nut,And like said earlier ,not the best poster boy for our sport or the right to bare arms, But I like him, nuts and all. And I'm sure back on the base using the word harvest would definitely get a few kisses blow at you, But hey man that's on base, and not an open forum.Now putting this subject and thread in the pass there is a question I have to ask...Do you Canadians have leopard, German made tanks? Much rather be in a U.S.A. made Abrams 1 any day...Don't get excited.... Just curious? And I'm Jesse..

Had the Leo 1 A4 since 78 and still use them for training. It went where the bigger tanks cant on tour. We have the Leo 2A6 now. Its a much better tank than the M1. No turbine. Its a multi fuel diesel. The US had problems with the filters in Iraq. They dont like the cold. The ammo storage is better on the Leo. German make the best tanks. Im Armour Warrant officer but not a tank, but have time in them. Ive been reconnaissance specialist. We're not like the US where your are Cav Tank or Cav Scout. You can go back and forth. Just my chose to servce was Recce. The only ones that dont are reserves, they are all Recce.
How it goes for Armour is Germans all round, Brtish for protection, US for the mobility.

I get ya cdarmyguy, The Germans have always and still do make good stuff!! I know that for sure since the best thing in my life was born and bread in the Father land. My wife of 42 years, From a small town I was stationed in Germany after my tour in the old republic of south Vietnam, Ansbach Germany.I was a radio tech Attached to the 7th corps, artillery unit of 175mm Howitzers. It was a little different with my first tour with a regiment of the 101st airborne div,Path finder Qualified in the hills of south Vietnam..Not to mention Germany the land of my Fore fathers was a lot less stressful and cooler, And ummmm...that remark I made to you that I hope you stay in Canada..I'd like to now say hope some day maybe we can meet. And whatever happens we can take it from there {SMILE}

Gettn' a little off topic aren't you guys? :lol: :lol: Good reading none the less.

Glad you're on our side.

I just was thinkin' I often use "took" a deer. As in'" Yah, I took a doe last week." ....(wishful thinking).

Don't use "took" for carrots or fish though.
