horton super mag

Post by bj »

can anyone tell me about this bow..."Horton Supermag"...i'm kind of ignorant when it comes to horton mfg  ...(my fault)...this is a skeletonized model, not sure what year it is, (not even sure if it's that old as this one was as new)...it's a pebbly green and dark camo color, 150-175 #'s ???, 17" string, steel cable and tear drop on the string, sling studs, factory quiver...i was surprised when i shot this bow as i had hear a lot of negative feedback on the horton triggers...it actually wasn't that bad and was quite manageble to keep on target while squeezing the trigger... the other thing i was amazed with was the accuracy...from a kneeling position, once the bow was sighted in, with an older excal. drop zone scope,at 30 yards i was able to keep a 2216 inside 2" dots quite easily...not quite excal . accuracy, but pretty darn respectable...anyone know what how old this bow might be and what it might have sold for ?....

(the other interesting thing was i fired only flat butt nocks thru this bow (in lieu of moon nocked bolts) and had no issues with it...about 40-50 shots...?????)

thanks,
Wayne..........

bj,

Is this the critter you are referring to? I have one and was using it prior to purchasing my Excals from you~! This bow never let me down in the field and I took my first bow buck with it! 8) I cant compare it to my Excals but I would say that it is a decent bow and I would not hesitate to use it should the need arise~!

I bought one from Cabels back in 1996 for $209. It was a large leap up from the Barnett Wildcat that I had owned but the Supermag falls short of my Exocet that I currently own.

bj,

Not sure how old they are? I have had mine for 5 years now and I know the fella I got it from had it for at least 2-3~! I dont think that is much help to ya but that is the best I can do~!

PS - Yes it was very cold the afternoon I took that buck...December 13th, 2003 if memory serves me correctly. I remember saying to myself just before he showed himself "I gotta be nuts!!".
