Hi guys, I'm recovering from my 4th back surgery and our bow season opens on saturday. I bought some Montec G-5s 100gr, and found them to be very dull right out of the package. Could someone educate me on how the sharpen a broadhead properly. Thanks alot, It's great to be back.

Glad to hear your up and ready to hunt. MONTEC makes a
sharpener just for ther heads , but any good drag over the edge,
or angle stone or diamond v shape sharpener will work check with your local shop. GREYWOLF

I use them and all I do is lay them flat on a sharpening stone and push them forward then rotate the head and repeat until they start to get an edge. It may take a while but they truly are great heads. Remember to use oil with your stone. Last year I killed a moose and a deer with the same broadhead just resharpend it.

I'll after to agree with SHIFTY, they are easy to maintain once you get the hang of it. I sharpen mine use a 800 and 1000 grit stones, I use the same technique as SHIFTY. I found sharpening them when in water works the best, it helps lub the stone plus the stone never gets loaded........

Make sure you didn't get the pre-season broadheads, which are very dull and black in color to distinguish from the regular G-5's which appear to come already fairly sharp and hunt ready. Good Luck!

I have switched to the G5 Montec's, and they are sort of dull right out of the package. They are very easy to sharpen, get more details at www.g5outdoors.com and check out the sharpening videos. My season starts (9/10/05) here in South Georgia. hoping all goes well and good luck.

Thanks for the advise guys, I purchased a Smith's flat diamond stone, after an hour or so, I had 9 very sharp broadheads for tomorrow morning.

I use a flat 8" diamond bench stone.
