Scope

Post by TYE »

Hey guys, I'm just curious. Is it worth it to get the scope?

What are the pro's and con's?

I shoot fine at 20 yards with my fibre optic sight, and 30 yards is not bad, but past that I can't see well.

I was thinking about getting the Excalibur Varizone scope, but I'm not sure if I really want/need it or not.

Tye that is a matter of personal preference. I personally shoot with a scope on both my exomag and my 870 pump fully riffled for the shotgun season. The only advantge of not shoting with a scope is when the deer is on the run, It is much easier to shoot without the scope when running. With a bow you shouldn't even be thinking about shoting when runing so i think the scope is the way to go.

scope

Am a rank amateur w/ crossbows, but the 1st thing I did when I got it was order a scope mount. These old eyes appreciate the optics on my muzzleloader and my shotgun as well.

I've got a Varizone on my Exomag, and fibre optics on our Vixen. I'll use the scope when in the open or along the edges of cover. That is because deer will normally come out in the open Alfalfa fields closer to dark, therefore needing all the light gathering advantage possible. But we've got several tree stands up half a mile in the forest. The deer in there are moving around alot earlier in the afternoon, therefore we will use the Vixen open sights. Having no scope, quiver, shoulder strap, makes the Xbow alot lighter to hold up for longer periods of time. With my fibre optic (stock) sights, any deer standing for more than 5 seconds, at 0-25 yards away, is as good as in our deep freeze.

So my point is, depending on where you hunt will dictate on what sights should be used.
