My streak of bad luck continues !

Post by R.J. »

Been laid up with a back/neck strain again .... only been able to do some light trail walking / scouting / trimming ..... working with the Doc. to remedy this ( soon I hope ) .

Tagged along with the boys on Saturday ... poking along doing some light trimming of twigs that overhung the trail when I had a slip with my small Gerber pocket saw and ripped my thumb open ! .... 2 stiches to close the vien and 15 stiches to sew up the outside .....

Laying low for a week or so to heal up .....

Congrats to all you guys that have connected so far ..... ecoaster , flinger , wabi , curdogs nephew , GaryL and crew , deerdhunter , dryhorn2 .... and anybody else that I might have missed ....

So much for my previous " Rule of Thumb " post !

Been at this game a long time and I know I will connect eventually .... just got to get over some hurdles ....

Hopefully I will be posting pic's like this ....

And no more pic's like this

Wow, you sound a bit like that guy from the cartoon who used to have the black cloud over his head. Fortunately yours is no doubt a temporary condition, which I hope will be followed by an extended period of outrageous good luck.

I look forward to seeing the pictures when your luck does turn.

Geez R.J. you have had a run of bad luck. Things will turn around for you soon enough and hopefully you will be out bowhunting quicker than you think. Get well soon.

Yikes! That had to hurt!
I had an incident on the weekend as well. I was sighing in my 7mm RM with a new fangle scope. First shot, zoomed in, just outside. Second shot, OUCH!!! FORGOT TO ZOOM BACK OUT  The recoil got me (if you've shot a 7mm RM you know what it's like). I for sure needed stitches, but since I was with a couple other guys, we stayed and finished shooting. By the time I got to the hospital, the doc couldn't open the gash as it had healed shut. Oh well, chicks dig scars....just not my wife

I feel for you RJ, although you seem to have gotten it a bit worse then me. Good luck when you get out again!

RJ
Maybe we should get together and file a class action law suit against Gerber. I had 6 stitches from a slip with their folding saw when I cut the Christmas tree with it last year.

Thanks guys .... Never had a slip like that before !

You don't realize how often you use your thumb till you smack it !

Right now NG for cocking , climbing , tying boots .... you name it !

Pretty hard to do anything weel without bumping it or putting pressure to it ....

My Doctor says I need to keep mobile with light walking as Physio for my back and neck .... so scouting for that perfect spot is " on the menu " .

Herbinator : a recoil scope hit from a 7 mm ! ..... yikes !

wabi :   I hear ya ! .... It just happend to be a new saw as well ( sharp as a freakin scalple ! ) .... I was just finishing a small twig branch and the back stroke caught the front tooth of the blade just in front of the thumb nail .... momentum carried the back stroke of the cut thru ..... looked like a thin red pen line for a second ( I thought it was only a scratch , since it felt like only a touch ! ) a second later it opened up like a batt of insulation .... some custom field dressing and away we went to see the Doctor ..... ( mind you , all my buddies would have been willing to have a go at stiching it on the spot ! but the only thing handy for suitures was a set of spare boot laces   )

Mental note :
  wear gloves while trimming !

It hurts like $%#@ now .... I'm guessing typing aint helping things , so I'm signing off ....

I guess it could have been worse.

You could have been using a chain saw..... :D
