Got Another One, That Makes Three Total

Post by ComfyBear »

No I've yet to get a deer this year, but got another Ruffed Grouse just the other day. :)

A shot presented itself and I watched through my scope as my SlickTrick tipped GoldTip Laser II bolt nearly decapitated and toppled a grouse 32 yards. 8)

That makes a total of three grouse that I've gotten with my Excalibur crossbows over the years. I've yet to miss when shooting at a grouse at 15, 20, and 32 yards respectively, yet I've missed a turkey at only 17 yards, go figure. :?

If you can go three for three on Ruffled Grouse, than we need to get you down here on some Missouri Turkeys. You would do a bang up job. Nice shooting.

Ruff Grouse are a blast. I got two when I was away moose hunting, with the slingshot.

Yum. I shot my first Partridge last year right on the camp with a .410, and man it made a sweet lunch!

How long did you look for your arrow this time? (I'm assuming you had a complete pass through. :D )

Slick Tricks and carbons on grouse???? Is there anything left  ????

Expensive bird if you hit something hard on the other side.

Since my Exomag is a tack-driver, and I'm an expert shot  :P I hit it in the spine just behind it's neck. Just kidding about being an expert shot, not about hitting behind the neck. Even though I was aiming for the neck, you know what they say, it's better to be lucky than good.

Other than an almost severed neck, the bird had no other damage, I cooked the deboned breasts on the barbie, and they were finger-licking good. The thighs, although a bit drier, were also tasty. :)

Since I was shooting from a treestand, the bolt was just behind the bird in soft "grassy" earth. Other than a bit of mud, the bolt and broadhead were no worse for wear. A quick wash and rinse, and sharpening and it was just as good as new.
