lost my friend

Post by fudster »

we had to put down our beloved dog down today.she was a black lab only 9 years old,and our neighbour sent this over.

A DOG'S PLEA

Treat me kindly, my beloved friend,
for no heart in all the world
is more grateful for kindness than
the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick,
for though I might lick your hand
between blows, your patience and understanding
will more quickly teach me the things
you would have me learn.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's
sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce
wagging of my tail when the sound
of your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet,
for I am a domesticated animal, no longer
accustomed to bitter elements
I ask no greater glory than the privilege
of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water,
for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food that I may stay well,
to romp and play and do your
bidding, to walk by your side and stand ready,
willing and able to protect you
with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, my friend, when I am very old and I no
longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight,
do not make heroic eforts to keep me going.
I am not having any fun. Please see to it that
my life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth
knowing with the last breath I draw that my fate
was always safest in your hands.

They are mans best friend for sure!!! Anyone who has ever had to put their dog down knows how tough it can be. It's too bad their lives are so much shorter than ours :( .

Take care!

I am trully sorry to hear of your loss. Pets really have a way of stealing our hearts. Always remember the good times that you shared. That poem was really heartfelt and well versed. They are mans best friend. I can share with your pain.

I too had to put one of my dogs down on Oct 20/2004, and as was mentioned above there has not been a day which I didn't think about the many great times we shared together during her short lived life of 5 years.

My condolences go out to you and your family, fudster... :(

Sorry to hear the loss of your dog. Dogs are truly man's best friend. Always there, always ready, always happy just to be with you. I love my Golden and have only had this beautiful animal, my first dog, for two years. He is an amazingly dedicated, loving, and affectionate friend...always seeking to be by my side. I can just imagine your pain...a pain that all dog owners must go through.

Thanks for the very touching and well written poem.

I sympathize with you. We put one down this past January. The kids and wife took it real hard. We still have one left but she is aging fast. They become part of the Family.
