Things Used But Not Designed For Hunting.

Post by A.W »

Just curious about what some of the members use but not designed for hunting. This might be interesting. It may also give some members ideas and save them some money .

I'll start it off.

Felt shoe liners cut up and used for scent pads.

My office was once throwing out some green hinged plastic boxes that were used to hold those old 3"x5" index cards. They hold a box of 25 shotgun shells and keep them dry in the duck blind.

TYE. This thread is for ideas. Not humour.

Any more ideas out there?

35MM camera film containers as scent bombs. stick some cotton in them-put a hole in the lid and a rubber band-works great. You can put some foam in them too and use them as a lube tube for arrows-even better for both are the plastic tubes that some mini m&m's come in-its long enough for a tampon or lots of cotton meaning it holds plenty of ms Doe Pee or #69

:?: another one of my favorites is a black balloon or condom filled with your choice of scent , hung in a tree over a mock scrape put a small pin hole in it and it works as a great dripper . This one paid off big time for me 3 years ago, I took a 130 class buck that I had been after for 3 month's ,
You know I work in one of the largest hunting and fishing stores in my area and I dont like to spend money on stupid stuff that is over priced and packaged up real nice with a big add campain behind it on tv and magazines , when we can make something just as good useing our big brain and oposeing thumbs , and outdoor skill's . I would be willing to bet there are a lot of member's here that have done just that . come on guy's let's share what we have made and work's , and we all can save some money for the holiday's GREYWOLF

Start to gather seeds from Persimmon trees, acorns, and other fruit bearing bushes, tree's ect... and simply push the seeds down into some potting soil about 1 to 2 inches. Keep an eye on them to come up next spring. Plan or pick a spot that you think you'll be hunting at from your favorite tree or ground blind with best view in mind and plant trees, ect... accordingly. In 5 to 10 years from now you'll be glad you did or especially the youngsters will maybe better benefit from it.

I plan on buying 2 to 4 apple trees this spring because I was told that it is hard to keep the young apple trees protected until they are 5 to 6 feet tall.

Baby wipes - beat the heck out of leaves and are better than lugging around toilet paper. Pop a few into one of those ziplock baggies mentioned above and carry them in your fanny pack EVERY time you go to the woods.

Black vinyl pond tubing for covering the chains on an API treestand.

As mentioned above - tampons make for quick and easy scent wicks.

Cheap MP3 player loaded with game call sounds hooked up to some Azden wireless microphones and a horn speaker for a cheap wireless electronic game call.

Aerial photos and topo map websites are invaluable for scouting new properties prior to heading out to scout/hunt.
