Need a Crossbow or Education of Crossbows / See my delima

Post by crossfire »

Thieves or a thief have been rumaging through my tools and equipment stored on my 2 acres here. I've had to bring in a 20' shipping container to lock them up and secure them but the thieves hotwired my tractor and used the frontend loader to gash in the side of the container to gain access. It was a small gash only allowing them to crawl in and crawl out with small handtools.
I know I know a dog would be a good deterrant but they laced dog food or used drugs and killed the last dog I had here on the property. I used to shoot paper with a Rem 22-250 and a AR15 at 75-100 yards and accuracy wasn't a problem but at the current time I am in an ongoing situation with the ATF and it prohibits me from possessing a firearm during the investigation otherwise the thief or thieves would already be apprehended. I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place so I've considered my options and a Crossbow seems to be the alternative. Ok, knowing nothing about Crossbows, bow hunting or anything of the sort I am askng for some suggestions, help or an education .....
I've looked a Cabela's and they seem to have a selection anywhere from $ 299.00 to $ 1499.95 and I've looked at this website; http://www.crossbowpistols.com/ but his wares could be made to sell and not made to be used, I dunno... ?
Price is an big issue at the moment, I dont want to buy a $ 300.00 wall ornamite wall hanger when I could spend $ 100.00 or $ 200.00 more and have a quality accurate piece of equipment and capable of the task at hand. I guess I am seeking some suggestions, maybe an education, but definately some quick answers... Accuracy is a big issue here as I dont think I will get the opportunity to get any closer than 50-75 yards away from my intended target. Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated... Thank you in advance.. Terry aka Crossifre -

Wow. This is scarey. Do you really intend to shoot someone with a crossbow. I know up here, sometimes the criminal has more rights than the victim when weapons are involved. Especially if premeditated. I would be real careful with this. Will the Police help you out? Maybe a stakeout if you set it up. You dont want to end up in the Klink. I know they are rats that do this. We have thieves here too. You cant keep a treestand or a trailcam here cause of thieves.

I feel bad that your material goods are stolen from you. Why not keep your stuff in a secured area with cameras and security? Your present train of thought will lose you not only your tools, but also your freedom/life.

Crossbows will not solve your problem and coming here to ask people to help you kill someone is beyond ridiculous. You need to re-evaluate your situation and stop thinking like a jackass.

Set up an infrared camera(no flash) and try taking some pics of them.

Hoss & Woodsman, I never said anything about killing or maming anyone, you are getting the wrong message here. AW's suggestion is the most positive and intelligent suggestion I've heard yet, an infrared camera no flash and taking pictures of them. If the guy needs to feed his family or children Stealing is NOT the answer. Two wrongs dont make a right but I've had it with thieves. Two Wells Cargo covered trailers, 1-6'x10' and 1-8'x12' is what they got last year when they cut the lock on the gate up front, two 5500 watt generators this summer, numeous tools and electric saws, you name it, if they can carry it off its probably gunna be missing when I get home...

If you oher guy's smell something maybe you need to go check your drawers.

Premediated ? No... Not in the least..

Thanks for your suggestions.. As far as the comments, ya'll better go check them drawers. Your lady friends wont come near you smelling like stink bait.

Headed to Cabela's to look into one of those infrared camera's, Ive seen them before and they seem pretty inexpensive. I'm outta here!

You would be taking one heck of a chance to pull out a Xbow to deal with criminals.

The Xbow is accurate. However, distance from a target is critical. It could shoot accurately at man sized targets out to 75 yards, but if the target was 90 yards away or 60 yards away, you would be 'way off target. So, it would not be smart to rely on one in the situation you describe.

The other thing is, what happens if the criminals are carrying a firearm? Ever hear the expression, "Don't take a knife to a gun fight"? You would have escalated the situation by bringing out your Xbow and you would be horribly overmatched.

Not wise.
"Gun Control Laws"--trying to nag criminals into submission.

crossfire, you want your crossbow education? Here it is. F*&k OFF!!! How dumb or inbread are you? This is a hunting site!

If your story is even close to being true, I don't blame them from stealing from you. You are possibly the dumbest poster here. You must be an easy target for these criminals. Come on to a hunting site and ask advice about catching criminals with a crossbow!!! The posts on here just keep getting better and better.

I put on fresh underwear after my dump and then, shower this moring. I think the smell is coming from you!

Sorry if we misinterpreted your oringinal plea for help (or was it insanity! ). If you would have come on here asking "how to catch a rat", we could have all chipped in in a helpfull and respectful manner. Just don't ask us which crossbow to use on a thief ...because this sounds pretty freaken stupid to me!

Maybe you should go to the FORD site and ask them how to run someone over with one of their trucks.

I vote we have this loser banned from the site. This is the kind of stupidity and press crossbows do not need.

Vote for ban: 1
