Tagged out!!! 2 HUGE Bucks!!!!

Post by JR »

I finally got the chance to get out for an afternoon of hunting. (My wife had our baby last week.) Spent all summer and the better part of the fall scouting out this buck. He's an 8 pt typical with an outside spread of 20" and an inside measurement of 15". He weighed over 250 lbs (max for scale).
Story to follow. -JR

Tagged out Thursday night. The wind and snow were blowing fairly steady from noon on. Around 4:20 pm, the wind died down so I decided to do a bit of calling. I gave 3 grunts and within 5 seconds I was grunted back! I gave a single grunt again, and again I was grunted. This repeated itself about 5 times and then silence. It felt like an hour but it was probably 4-5 minutes. Then I heard that familiar crunching in the leaves. Off came the safety. I could see the buck walking broadside at approx. 13 yrds. I put the bead on his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. He dropped like a ton of bricks. No tracking required. Gotta love it!. -JR

My brother in law got this huge beast on Saturday around 11am. He was calling from the edge of the river that borders our property. He first saw this bruiser approx. 30yrds behind him. It then took off south just as my father in law walked into camp and spooked the deer right back to my BIL. It took 6 shots (2 in vitals) and 4 in the neck to take him down. The deer weighed 297 lbs at his friends house. It's an 11 pt. with a kicker on the right beam. It also had a drop tine on the same beam but was broken off. What a way to end the season. -JR

Man what a beauty!!! Me and dad have one tag left, lots of meat in the freezer and a big old boy leaving tracks and scrapes all over our property. Hopefully we put our last tag on it.
CONGRATULATIONS

I just got a call from my brother-in-law. He shot an 11 pointer this morning a mere 50 yards from where I took my buck. He says it makes my buck look like a runt. I'll post some pics and the story later tonight. I'm going over there later to help him skin the buck.

He's taking his buck to a friend of his to get it weighed. -JR

Sorry TYE. I've already offered a small patch of corn field to Alaspan and his bunch late last month to come over and hunt. They lost their land just before the season. They'll be hunting about 400 yards from where we took the two bruisers. But, since we're all out of tags......  :D -JR
