Crossbows to North Carolina??

Post by swicegk »

First let me say I'm new to the forum and to crossbows. I will purchase one early in 06. As of right now I have narrowed the choices down to 2 bows. Tenpoint Titan TL-4 or the Excalibur Phoneix. I have shot the Titan but have not found the Phoneix localy to test it. I'm a little concerned about the 280 FPS on the Titan as compared to 305 FPS on the Phoneix. My hunting will be for whitetails only. My main question right now is being that crossbow sales are restricted in NC (must obtain a pistol/crossbow per county sheriff) can I mail order a crossbow from another state if I fax the permit to the selling dealer? I know from lurking on the forum that there are several dealers here, can you provide some info on this for me? I'm sure I'll have more questions as I proceed with the crossbow selection in the future. Thanks in advance.

do you have a friend or relative ect. that lives in a nearby state that it could be shipped to? you can also purchase one in another state. it has been over a year since i read the statute but i believe it says you must " present" the ppp and not "surrender" the ppp so a copy may well do. good luck!
thanks philip

A few of the dealers are about an hours drive from my home. Next week I'm heading to our place in Myrtle Beach, SC. I'll check out the crossbows there at the Bass Pro Shops as they should have good selection. I would likely pay a lot higher price if I purchased from a local dealer, thats why I was inquiring about mail order. Also read about the good service provided from some members of this forum.

swicegk, I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but you do know that you have to apply for a crossbow permit from the NCDNR to hunt with a crossbow in NC don't you. I had to have my Dr. fill out a form describing my disability and send it to the them. It only took a couple of days to get my permit to HUNT with a crossbow. It only took 1 day to get my handgun permit.
God Bless !!!!!!!!!
