First Buck

I killed this deer last Monday afternoon out at my place. He came in with the wind 12 meters from my 15 foot ladder stand. He dropped like a ton of bricks when I hit him. The Carbon bolt had gone high and hit him just under the spine in line with his shoulder. I climbed down and left him for 3 hours (learning a lesson last year with a neighbour) Brought my Exocet back out for a photo. I have a trail camera that I use regularly and I have never seen this buck before. What a great hunt. Butch

Congrats Butch. That's a hell of a nice Christmas present if I've ever seen one.

I'll be out Thursday and Friday, can you send his brother over to my stand. Oh ya, can I borrow your lucky hat?

I'm in the same boat Grey Owl. I had some huge does and some fawns under me last wednesday. My buddy bought some extra anterless tags for our wildlife management unit so I could have shot one of them if I wanted but we have lots of meat from gun season so I'm not interested in shooting a doe just for the sake of getting a deer with my bow.

I still have my buck tag so I'm holding out for a nice buck. If I don't get anything by the 31st so be it. I'll be skunked with my excal this year. I still enjoy getting out and watching does and fawns within 10 yards of me.

I've found some super sweet spots for a stand where there are tons of big tracks in the snow and like 3 trails converging. I'll be out next week after the season is over to cut some shooting lanes for next fall.
